davisdvd.com has recently posted Region 2 info on this release, which means Region 1 is likely not too far behind.

Not yet. Best guess is summertime.

| I'm new to this genre. TGTBATU is the third in a trilogy. Is it necessary to have seen the previous movies to enjoy this one? (Should I go ahead and buy the others in the series or hold out for a new version?) |
You really don't have to see the films in order, and TGTBATU is actually a prequel, technically speaking.
As far as buying the others - restoration efforts will be very welcome, especially for the now brightened day-for-night scenes in A Fistful of Dollars. However, the discs can be found for $7-10 almost anywhere, so even if you do end up double-dipping it's not too big of a deal (if you buy it and watch the film twice that is the same as renting the DVD twice, going by cost).

Here's hoping that MGM will treat this restored version with the same loving care Paramount lavished on OUATITW, one of my favourite discs of last year.

OUATINW was the first Leon western I saw, and I can't wait to get my habds on this trilogy, and wait I well for the better quality PQ and SQ!
I thought they were remastering the other 2 at the same time? A new 35 print of fistful recently played in town. (I missed it though

I think the box art is boring. Why didn't they use the image that is on the top postcard shown in photo 2. It is one case where the "floating head" approach works and it was a piece of original poster art to boot. It sure looks a lot better than what they are going to use. After all, there were three main characters in this film, and I'm only seeing one of them depicted.
Added:
I notice that the postcard image has the original Italian Title. It would have been a neat extra if they had put this art on the disc case as a reversible cover. The original Italian on one side and English on the other.
