Although the version we got last summer from warner was awesome, heres what i would want on it. Disc 1 would bascilly be the same stuff from last years disc . Disc 2 would be rare 80s tv spots including the gremlins cereal commercial, the gremlins toys, isolated music score version of the movie. Disc 3 would be a 20th anniversary reissue of the movie with the gremlin puppets replaced by cgi , lol !!

Probably not unless we spill water on the first Gremlins SE.

POWERFUL THE DARKSIDE IS... I caved and bought the Star Wars re-release after saying the whole time that I wouldn't.

I can see how the Warner chat would go...

Tony: "How about a 3-disc Gremlins SE?"
Warner: "No."
Ronald Epstein: Ok, next up is...

I think we should be happy with the SE. It's pretty darn good, and I don't think we're gonna see much better for it.

LOL...when I first read the subject title, I thought he was asking for a DTS version of Gremlins 3....and I was wondering why no one was pointing out that there never was a Gremlins 3!

Someone smack me!

And there was absolutely NO audio differences between the DTS and DD tracks on THOSE discs - yet, it was full-bit DTS.
All those DTS tracks did was take away from the picture quality which would have been even better without them.

However, the DTS encoding was done using Dolby Digital "optimized" masters, which entails changing the bass tracking, changing dialog levels, dynamic compression, etc. etc.

Not what I would have called "fair and balanced" tests.

A few WB titles since then have included DTS. 2002's True Romance had it, as did Madonna's Drowned World Tour DVD from 2001. I think there are a few more, though I can't remember the titles right now...

You mean they were both from the same master and they sounded the same? As opposed to optimizing the DTS master for DTS and using an inferior mix for the DD?

Gee, that's not fair and balanced at all.

Warner doesn't really hate DTS, but rather looks at it as unimportant...unless it's requested by other studios.

Morgan Creek is including DTS on a lot of their discs now (American Outlaws, True Romance: SE, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves; for example.)

Warner used full bitrate DTS for their 5 "test" titles, so it's likely that they'd rather use full bitrate or nothing.

Next year will be the 25th anniversary of Gremlins, so maybe we will get a new special edition with even more bonus material ????

Possibly... but probably not. Aside from reincorporating the deleted material from the TV cut of the film, and a retrospective featurette there isn't a whole lot more that could be done with Gremlins.

Maybe, I'd hope so. It would be more certain if a third Gremlins movie would come out (like the Batman SEs, when Batman Begins came out) but I've never heard anything from that, other than rumors.

Never go out with anyone who thinks Fellini is a type of cheese
