Re: Finally: The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989) Special Editions are coming in Fall of 2005!

As many of you may know, a Blu-Ray edition of Cronenberg's version of The Fly was slated for release back in April, but was delayed indefinitely.

This release would have taken bonus features from the 2005 2-disc set's second disc (along with new features) and combined them with the movie itself onto one disc.

Here are the extras that were mentioned:

· Commentary by David Cronenberg (from The Fly: CE Disc 1)
· Optional Trivia Track (new)
· Fly BD-J Game (new)
· Deleted Scenes (from The Fly: CE Disc 2)
· Trailers & TV Spots (from The Fly: CE Disc 2)

Recently, I just noticed this little item, which will be released on Aug. 7:

http://www.amazon.com/Fly-Collector-...969473-1016416

It appears to be a 2-disc repackaging of the first (movie) discs from the Fly and Fly II CE sets from 2005. In other words, a value-pack that dispenses with the bonus feature discs from the previous CE releases.

However, it's possible that the new bonus features from the aborted Blu-Ray disc will be included here.

If not, this will likely be equivalent to the Fly/Fly II Double Feature disc from 2000, except that the movies will be on two discs instead of one this time.

Fly BD-J Game (new) will be a bluray exclusive.. HD can do the IME and bluray is working to do the same.. that is a whole differnt matter. I doubt that the BD-J will be on the new disc coming out in august.

Re: Finally: The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989) Special Editions are coming in Fall of 2005!

Gotcha. I wasn't aware what the game was supposed to be, exactly. And I presume that the trivia track falls under the standard banner of trivia subtitle tracks (as found on the Star Trek movie DVDs, etc.).

Well, hopefully this release will bring something new to the table (like the triva track, or the deleted scenes and trailers ported from the 2005 2-disc version for the aborted Blu-Ray release). Otherwise, it'll be somewhat redundant, given that the barebones Fly/Fly II flipper disc from 2000 is still out there.

If this set includes the exact same content as the movie discs from the Fly and Fly II 2005 CEs, then the only selling points that will differentiate it from the cheaper Double Feature disc would be the audio commentaries (and the deleted scenes/trailers on the Fly II disc).

There's also this listing (for release on September 11):

http://www.amazon.com/The-Fly-Classi...969473-1016416

The Amazon listing says that this is four discs. Early reports state that this will be a collection of the three original Fly movies (...apparently along with a bonus disc, unless the Amazon listing is wrong), which means this will be the Region 1 DVD premiere of The Curse of The Fly.

But it's not an actual HD or Blu-Ray release, right? My guess is that the work done for the aborted Blu-Ray disc is being folded into this "Collector Set".

blu ray is a compeltely differnt animal. fox has slowed down on the releases to get them right..

they had to delay a bunch of titles.

it will be released on bluray.

the new extra features will be for bluray only.

Re: Finally: The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989) Special Editions are coming in Fall of 2005!

Well, the new Fly/Fly II two-pack is due out on Tuesday (8/7), but I recently got a sneak peak at it. It appears to be a repackaging of the previous DVDs from 2005 in a new slipcase (with new descriptions of the movies on the back). However, the Fox Collector's Edition numbers (20 and 21) are missing from the spines of the individual plastic cases. There's also no mention of specific special features on the slipcase (except for "special features are unrated and are not close-captioned").

Looks to me like these are 1-disc versions of the previous 2-disc sets, with slightly modified cover art (which also presumably omits the special features lists on the back of each).

I'm also wondering about the discs themselves. Presumably, they use the same menus and such as the 2005 versions, and also feature the audio commentaries (and deleted scenes, in the case of Fly II).

Thoughts? Anyone else know more?

If all of the above is true, it seems a bit pointless, since the 2000 Fly/Fly II double-feature disc is still easy to find (and at a lower price). But if this new release contains the 2005 commentary tracks and such, then that would be a selling point for new buyers.

Re: Finally: The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989) Special Editions are coming in Fall of 2005!

Well, I was right--the Collector's Set is just a repackaging of the 2005 versions (without the bonus discs) in a new cheapie slipcase.

Also, the Fly Classic collection is now out, and it's very nice. There's an audio commentary with David/Al Hedison on the first film, and some other neat bonuses on the 4th disc.

Finally, Cronenberg's version of The Fly will be released on Blu-Ray October 9. It will have all the special features of the 2005 release, as well as some new ones that are exclusive to the Blu-Ray version (such as the trivia subtitle track). Very interesting.

Re: Finally: The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989) Special Editions are coming in Fall of 2005!

composer howard shore and director David Cronenberg have teamed up for an opera of the fly remake. its a differnt take then even the 1986 classic. should be very interesting.. it will be playing in LA in september.
