Re: Genesis on SACD soon
How awesome is it that they actually mention It Bites (under "bands they've influenced") in the press release?

Don't worry about it. The Moody Blues SACD's were originally only available outside the US, but it was no problem getting them from CD-Wow, Amazon UK, etc. Prices were even better than if they were available here.
So I'm not worried about being able to buy these outside of the US. With the internet, it's truly a global marketplace now.

Yeah, I guess you're right, but I'm stuck watching on the PC when it comes to region 2 DVDs.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon
Latest news directly from Nick Davis, as posted on stevehoffman.tv....| just to clarify: in the usa it will be a dvd-v 5.1 (dts and dd) and stereo cd release. in europe the it will be dvd-v (as above) and sacd (stereo and 5.1) release. yes, for this current batch (trick-abacab) it will be new stereo mixes. there will be an extra disk set of 2 disks-formats as above- with the extra titles from this period. |
So, no high-res version at all for the US. No DVD-A.
Re: Genesis on SACD soon
That sucks. Oh well, I guess I'll be going for the imports!"Music is a magic carpet loaded with oils and other soothing potions, it's just what you need when you don't know what you need, when you've got more questions than answers." - Bob Lefsetz

What do you consider high-res?
Re: Genesis on SACD soon
New stereo mixes? Not just a new remaster? That's dangerous.
Messing with success and all.

So would the European disc be playable on US region 1 machines? I assume, if so, this would just affect the dvd-v and not the sacd layer (side?)? Also how does that work, 2 discs or diff layers? Is there video on it or just audio with a dvd video format. Would it be PAL vs NTSC?
Re: Genesis on SACD soon
The SACD will be a standard hybrid disc that will play in any SACD player (or CD player for the redbook layer). The DVD, however, may be a PAL DVD for any video material, so that could pose some problems (not for me, though, as I have a player that does both PAL and NTSC quite well and is region-free to boot). If the DD/DTS tracks are like a DTS-CD, with no video, then it should work fine on any player (as long as there is no region-coding).Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes time, and it annoys the pig.

yes thanks from me too. Will the dvd be sold individually or as a set with the cd or sacd?
Re: Genesis on SACD soon
I purchased several of the Depeche Mode SACD/DVD-V since those imports were priced reasonably at CD-WOW, maybe the Genesis sets will be available at attractive prices as well.Chris

I did too...that's what I'm hoping for from the Genesis sets.

Wow, I'm surprised there hasn't been a big discussion going on about the recent Genesis SACD announcements from Music Direct! I just got an e-mail today with a big section showing that they're being released (the 1st batch anyway) in March. I grew up on early '80's Genesis (I know, I missed all the prog rock stuff), but nevertheless, I'll be picking the latter day stuff w/o a doubt (Invisible Touch, Genesis, Abacab, etc.). It's gonna be kind of expensive though...$40 a pop!

Really stupid that they aren't selling the japanese versions with ntsc dvds, why would folks in the US buy from these guys? Hugely inflated prices as well. I'm sure cd-wow will do better pricewise but will likely offer only the versions with pal dvds as well...

Re: Genesis on SACD soon
I see some US (NTSC) dvd players will play PAL dvds. So will they be able to play these or would the player also have to be region free? Or do they typically not make the dvds packaged with cds associated with a region?Re: Genesis on SACD soon
My Denon 2910 will play them with the region free hack.

Re: Genesis on SACD soon
That's for a set of 5. I wonder how much their shipping to the US will be.Still moderately pricey. Anyone know whether the Japanese releases will include English liner notes?

Someone on the stevehoffman.tv website checked and the total when shipped to the east coast of the US came to about $122.00.
According to the HMV site, it says the source is from Europe. Perhaps there will only be one source for these titles instead of having different pressings.
Re: Genesis on SACD soon
I have an Oppo in a secondary system that plays PAL and is region free. Not a bad player for the money. Nice to have for the random British dvds I want to watch.I have had good luck with price and fast shipping using Amazon UK.
I know I won't be paying anywhere near $40 per disc, but I honestly I believe SACD/DVD combo will be well worth it!
Re: Genesis on SACD soon
I've got a question I'm actually embarrassed to ask. I do not own any SACD's and do not own an SACD player. When these new Genesis cds are released, will I be able to listen to them like a regular cd? I'd really like a remastered version of Tonight, Tonight, Tonight (Album Version). I'd actually like to have most of the Genesis catalog remastered. Am I out of luck or is there hope?Don't make me hungry. You wouldn't like me when I'm hungry.

So if I want hi res music, I've got to buy the Euro/Japan version and deal with different format DVDs - right?Re: Genesis on SACD soon

Yes, though the Japan version should be NTSC, same format as North America.
The Euro will be PAL, which may or may not play on your machine depending on the make and model.
