Now i wouldn't consider myself a negative person at all but i've just got hold of Grease on dvd.
What the hell have they done to the soundtrack,it sounds awful. All the tunes have been horribly remixed with sound effects added(Greased Lightning springs to mind),also i've noticed that a lot of the cast backing vocals sound really weak and puny,i think they may of been rerecorded. What happened to the original stereo soundtrack it sounded georgous .
I've always watched the pre 1998 release which is how the original cinema version sounded.
Why can't people leave things alone.
Has anybody else noticed this?

Pretty much everyone agrees the current Grease DVD was a big disappointment in many ways. Hopefully, it'll be double-dipped at some point.

The re-mix used was that of the theatrical re-release.

This mix was horrible, but has been around for sometime as it was also released on the laserdisc the same way.

Kinda surprised that you're just finding this out as this soundtrack has been panned for 5+ years.

Hopefully Paramount will revisit this...

I think this title will be revisited at some point without a doubt.
A PCM stereo track of the original 2.0 mix would be great but that's just me day dreaming.
BTW does anyone know who was responsible for the new mix?
I heard somewhere that even the director thought it sounded bad.
