Re: Film Noir - LIST
| Doesn't the fact that the documentary on Warner's Film Noir 3 shows "The Big Steal" & "Stranger on the Third Floor" indicate that they'll be in a future volume soon? Also, one of the people they interview says she is happy to hear that "Decoy" is being revived. The first two are RKO titles, so it seems likely to me, but "Decoy" is a Monogram picture--who owns the rights to Monogram? I think the rest of the pictures shown in that documentary have been released in the 1st three volumes of Warner's Noir series... And "Crime Wave" (also in the documentary) has been indicated that it'll be released. It just doesn't make much sense to me that Warner would produce a documentary on film noir without promoting current & future releases. |
I’m not sure seeing clips of these titles guarantees a future release of these, the only thing I’m sure of is that it guarantees WB owns the property. However, Eddie Muller has already indicated on his own web page that he has recorded a commentary for Crime Wave, so that one is a given. There’s a funny little story with regards to Decoy and I recall reading a buzz that this may see a future release, after WB located elements in excellent shape. That title as well as I Wouldn’t Be In Your Shoes were virtually lost and unseen Monogram films. When someone finally discovered copies (albeit rather poor quality broadcast copies), Decoy was a broadcast copy that was shown in Yugoslavia and still had the Croation subtitles – the only copy in circulation that I’m aware of that currently exists. This is a solid little noir and one I wouldn’t be surprised to see released. And as I noted in the V3 Noir review, considering the amount of clips used on that special feature disc, one would think, Decoy is in the works.
Other solid Monogram (now WB owned) noirs include:
When Strangers Marry (1944)
Violence (1947)
The Guilty (1947)
Fall Guy (1947)
Suspense (1946)
