After seeing the clip, though, I am more convinced somebody at the studio freaked out, orders came down from on high for a more "contemporary"-sounding orchestral score, and Jackson's statement was made to a) protect Shore's reputation, and b) start the rumor-control. This is not the first time Universal has done something like this of late.
I can't see them kicking out the composer - because this close to release it seems too risky...and this doesn't sound like something PJ would back down on.

But PJ kicking out the composer at a bad time seems more believable to me. After all look at what he did with Aragorn in the LOTR movies. Kicked out the original actor after filming had started.

*shrug* who knows...

I'm gonna go watch that production diary again

Another little known fact (I actually learned this from, of all places, an AICN talkback. And it checks out) Howard Shore himself was a replacement. Originally the guy who scored "Bram Stoker's Dracula" for Coppola was Jackson's pick for Lord of the Rings.
The best show you've never heard

Interesting news indeed. It gives me hope. I certainly like the new look of Kong better; hopefully the score decision will be in the best interest of the film as well.

Well that's no replacement, when they were looking for a composer, they looked at several people. It's a replacement when you choose the composer, start scoring and then change him!

I don't know which would disappoint me more - to know that Shore and PJ had a huge massive argument that resulted in Shore leaving or being fired, or that Shore composed a wonderful unique score that was dropped by the studio (much as happened to Yared with his score for Troy).

Well this makes for a potential dvd extra: Shore's score for the film in addition to the score the film is released with with. Just kidding, I don't really think they'd do that.

I very much doubt it was the studio's decision. Jackson has been having complete creative control over his baby, King Kong, and there's been no word of studio interference before. If anything, I think the studio would've liked to keep the exact same team that made Lord of the Rings such a success. I believe this is Jackson's decision through and through as I'm sure this project is his most personal and prized he's ever done and wants it absolutely perfect.

JonZ,

Yes it is...Too bad it isn't a bonus feature on the 1933 King Kong DVD.

But, my guess is it will be available as part of Jackson's bonus features on his Kong set.

That was fabulous. Let us hope that the respect for the original that was shown in this clip translates into a great new Kong movie.

JNH has replaced quite a few people. Trouble is he can also sound generic.

worst of all is the trailer...Jurassic Park IV is all I see.

Can someone that saw that (now) disabled PPD explain in greater detail what was there? If necessary, spoilers are fine. I'd like to know what was shown.

Any word on the trailer? I remember hearing a rumour that it was going to be with "Doom" but that turned out to be false. With less than two months approaching, I would think there'd be a full trailer by now. Unless they don't want to over hype like "Godzilla".

No, that's the teaser.

The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

gee, the earlier file must have been the pre-teaser then.

ANYWAY...the current trailer just gives away everything. no suspense, nothing. and too many dinosaurs. is this KONG or what?

failure as a teaser IMO. or just BAD marketing.

the dino effects look pretty fake as well. again bad for a teaser.

If that is the "teaser", then how long is the trailer? Teasers are usually short and meant to, how do I put this, tease.

Today you'll have two types of teasers. Those that show nothing or those that slowly lead you into the story of the money with some very quick unfinished money shots at the end. Look at the recent "Chronicles of Narnia" teaser and trailer. The teaser was around the same length as the trailer but took its time at the beginning to ease the audience into that universe and showed only a few of the special effects shots at the end while the full trailer started right off into that universe. I'm sure the same will be the case with Kong, updated effects and all.

Have you seen the orignal? Otherwise the answer is an obvious yes.

kongisking.net is reporting that there is an international version of the previously released teaser/trailer/whatever that includes a couple extra shots of Kong vs. V-Rex.

I'm also getting a little ancy for a full trailer, but I'd almost rather not see anything else prior to release. The teaser showed more than enough, I think. Of course, if and when the trailer does come out, I'll be powerless to avoid watching it, darn it.

The podcasts or video blogs say that there is at least one scene in the trailer that is not in the film, it is just there to fake viewers out.

The headline at drudge report reads as follows about King Kong

"MOVIE FIGHT BREAKS OUT OVER 'KING KONG': TOO LONG [3 HOURS!], BUDGET BALLOONS TO $207 MILLION..."

Unfortunately, clicking on the headling doesn't send you to the story yet.

Jeepers. I hope 3hrs.+ isn't true. Isn't the story of King Kong a little slight to support that length?

Edit: the story's now up at the New York Fishwrap:

Wow, 3 hours! Definitely didn't expect it to be quite that long, but as long as it remains entertaining the whole way through, then from me.
