I like the Jack Black casting, but then again, my first exposure to him was seeing him as the Lightning Kid's sidekick on the X-Files, which was a far cry from Tenacious D He seems like a great fit for Jackson's style - able to do straight roles, but you know Jackson will also add some comic relief to the film and Black should be able to handle that just as well.

Adrien Brody as Jack? No, I went with Jack Black as Carl D., but this doesn't work for me at all! The guy is too wimpy looking to play Jack! Knock this movie down a few notches for me again.

And you believe, at heart, everyone's a killer...

Adrien Brody in "King Kong"? Somebody better tell Naomi Watts to start puckering up for the kissing scenes! Better yet, I'll be more than happy to take Adrien Brody's place for the kissing scenes!

Same thing they said when Toby Maguire was cast as Peter Parker/Spidey. Guess what? Actors can work out & bulk up if the role requires it. He's got 4 months before filming begins.

PJ has shown that he knows how to cast a film, and Brody's a fine actor. Let's give them a chance.

Perhaps he will fire Black after two weeks into filming and hire Viggo Mortenson as the replacement. Things like this happen.

Additionally, as a WWI to WWII era pilot, I think its really good casting. It may be a nice departure from the Brendan Fraser adventure hero casting model.

And Wells is setting himself up to dislike the movie. He's firmly establishing zones and parameters of where he thinks the movie should go, so any departure into new territory will automatically be received negatively. He also has little faith in actors displaying range when presented with material atypical to their norm. Based on his comments, I would suspect he would have said something similar after hearing Jim Carrey being cast for a Charlie Kauffman movie.

I would call that a blueprint on how to hate a movie before a single image is shot.

For someone with such a professed love of the original, you'd think he could atleast get the female lead's name right; it's Darrow not Darrell.

Andy Serkis has been signed up to play King Kong. The Great Ape will be created through the same motion capture process that created Gollum in LOTR.

He'll also play "Lumpy," a chef on the vessel that sails to Skull Island.

Is it concept art?
I would have called it a teaser poster.
In any case, it's pretty cool...

I love that it looks like a 1930s promotional poster - it looks exactly like the posters I would imagine Denham really would have used to promote the first display of Kong, although it would have been even cooler if it said "The Eighth Wonder Of The World".

Was this always a Christmas release, or has it been pushed back? I thought it was a summer release.

Cool poster, though.

Hopefully this character's better than Charlie the stereotypical Chinese chef from the original movie.

On an interesting note I read this letter in the Wash Post on Sat...

In his Aug. 10 obituary of Fay Wray, Adam Bernstein mentions one of the most widespread pieces of movie misinformation. "King Kong" did not live on Skull Island. In "King Kong," the name of the island is not mentioned. In the inferior sequel, "The Son of Kong," released later in 1933, it is referred to simply as "Kong's island."

Haven't watched the feature in awhile...and tradition holds the island to be called 'Skull Island' but I'm surprised if the research by Peter Jackson & Co overlooked it with the teaser movie poster tagline.

Wow, how did PJ know that the biggest LOTR/PJ groupies are also Jack Black fans?

I still say this will kill his career in a hurry. Then again, I scoffed when I heard the title of a movie was "Forrest Gump."

I'd be scared shitless to do a movie like this after the disaster that was the revival of "Godzilla."

Naomi Watts too? Wow, I want to see it even less now.

Maybe this will lower his price for "The Hobbit". If anyone still even cares about it by the time it gets made.

So I guess that means we'll have to wait that long to see the real Kong (33) on DVD from Warner?

That disaster certainly hasn't seemed to hurt Roland Emmerich's ability to get work.

Plus, Godzilla opened well, as will Kong. Long term prospects will have to do with the quality of the picture. In Godzilla's case word of mouth was poor and the film had large drops. The verdict is obviously out on King Kong but I put more faith in Jackson, Walsh, Boyens, WETA, etc than Emmerich and Devlin.

...you mean the Jury is still out on Kong, right? Because until we see it no one truly knows if it is a hit or a miss. Even though I am a great admirer of Peter Jackson (I still think Heavenly Creatures is his greatest work, LOTR not withstanding), you never know.

Well Jackson stated that he wanted to get Jack Black for a film since he saw High Fidelity.

Have you seen Mulholland Dr. or 21 Grams? She has to be one of the better actresses working in Hollywood right now.

I only ever saw Watts in The Ring. She was fine in it (though I'm still not nuts about the film), but I found her disappointing to look at. Hard looking.

I could see Jack Black and Peter Jackson playing brothers.

I agree! Very evocative--I really like it. Unfortunately, Dark horizons is now saying it's a fake.
*** Update (18/8) *** - Universal, Peter Jackson and various convention attendees have now all confirmed no such poster has either been made or was at the convention. It's a fake boys and girls.

I still like it.
