Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

Thanks Mike! I looked around the second vendor a bit and not only is there a smaller minimum and a smaller per-unit cost (ok, so it's 25 and 51 cents respectively, but still), they offer free shipping too. They're not exactly the same, but they serve the same purpose and with the shipping being a difference of 8 bucks, I'm definitely gonna go with those. Thanks again!

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I'll just start typing and if anyone knows what I'm writing about, maybe you can help me out.

When I picked up those James Bond Ultimate Collection Sets, each film came packaged in a very nice two-disc, slim case - except for two titles. These two titles (On Her Majesty's Secret Service & Goldeneye for me) came a in notably cheaper type of case. It was flimsier and the spindles didn't hold the disc at all. They also had a stench of wet plastic. A few months later, I purchased the slim case re-release of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and curiously enough Season 7 came in these same cheap 2-disc slim cases.

So my question is, does anyone know where I can find the "good" 2-disc slim cases to match the other ones? I tried ordering these, but they turned out to be of the cheaper variety, only they seem to have improved the hub mechanism a little. The smell is still there though.

But I'm still curious if anyone knows where to pick up the better kind.

Ray, thats the million dollar question. I dont think you can get those exact cases now. But get rid of the ones that stink, and fast! I would bet they are the Scanavio slim cases that leave a "fungus" like residue on your discs. I know we had a thread on the subject not long ago.

You just wanted to have the same type of case. But i guess you didnt know that some cases can ruin your discs. I wouldnt of belived it myself, except i saw firsthand what those Scanavio slim cases do to discs. Oh well...here you go anyway.http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...avo-cases.html

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I looked into the matter, but I'm not sure if the cases I'm having an issue with are from Scanavo. They are unbranded and I don't think they feel "oily" as described in that thread you linked to. Since I paid more for the James Bond sets and frankly, the last two seasons of Buffy weren't that good, I switched some of the "good" cases from the Buffy S6 set with the shoddy ones from the JB sets. I noticed that one of the Buffy slim cases was indeed branded "Scanavo" and was a little different from the "good cases" but still seemed to be of a higher quality to the cruddy ones I described, but if the issues are true, I'll need to look into the matter a bit more.

Still, I don't know what the shitty cases I have are. Nor do I know if they cause an issue. While the ones that I purchased seemed to fix the hub, they still smell bad enough that I typically consider airing them out.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

FWIW, I received, today, an order that I had placed with Sleeve City.com. The order came beautifully packaged. It was a small order of a hodge-podge of different items--some single-disc Blu-ray cases, Super Jewel cases (think DVD-As) and some plastic sleeves. Nothing slim in this order (I have plenty on-hand right now) but they DO carry slim single and double DVD cases.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I might be WAY behind the times on this issue...but I have finally seen some VERY slim Blu-ray cases.

I picked up, tonight, a copy of the Essential Holiday Film Collection at my local BJs Wholesale Club (Elf, A Christmas Story, Nat'l Lamppon's Christmas Vacation, The Polar Express). The four films were housed in four extremely thin Blu cases.

I only saw their spines (titles VERY easy to read), but I would like to think they are functional as well as space-saving.

Mike, The Matrix , Blu-ray, set also comes in these cases. They are sweet for box sets, unlike the Bond Blu-ray boxes.
If not for the fact they hold Blu-rays i cant say i would like them. DVDs would get scratched, cause the disc seems to touch the case. But its not a problem for Blu discs.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

It seems I'm having a problem with my slim cases also.

About 18 months ago I converted everything over to slim using Memorex brand cases (They where on sale at Radio Shack at the time for $4.99 for 25 cases).

I've already pulled about 16 discs out of the cases because of a milky/oily looking discoloration on the DVD playing surface. And I've only checked 1 shelf. I have 8 more to go with about 75-80 cases on each one. This really has me upset.

The discs seem to clean up easily with soap and water, but a few discs still have some of the residue left.

Thankfully I have a few 96 disc binders left and have begun storing the problem discs in them until I can resolve this issue.

Re: DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

Does anyone happen to know if any of the cover sites out there have any custom covers for the Blu-ray version of Band of Brothers? I'm hoping to take mine out of their metal case and put the six discs into three double Blu cases.

I seem to remember that custom covers were all the rage for the SD Band of Brothers set...but I haven't been able to find any yet for the BD version.

Maybe I'll have to take some initiative!
