Why am I not surprised that they used the Black Sabbath song...

Really interesting teaser. Not the portrayal of Tony Stark I pictured, but there's no denying that that's a teaser with personality. I hope it carries through to the final film.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

i wouldn't call it a teaser, it's like 2 min long... more like trailer #1 the Dark Knight teaser was an actual teaser: no actual movie footage, less than a minute long...

but anyways, i really liked the first few moments, the rock and roll Gates thing. other than that, i don't really know how to gage it. it looks promising but trailers usually do. the flying Iron Man looked good, typical hi-grade CG.

I got a real kick out of it. It was mostly SDCC footage, but the resolution was much better. RDJ looks great as Stark. I have high hopes for this one.

I was feeling it. Though Junior was being Junior in the early moments of the teaser, I could see him develop into the Stark I know throughout the rest of the teaser.

The flying stuff was great.

It doesn't make any sense that they used the Black Sabbath song. The lyrics of that song have nothing to do with the comic book, and the comic book pre-dates the song (so they can't claim that the song inspired the comic book).

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I loved the use of the song. It's just...simple fun. And my son loves the "I am IRON MAN!" bit from it. What was the purpose of Just Like You Imagined (by NIN) from the 300 trailer??? Nothing...it just sounded cool

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

Thats actually shorter than the con footage. They cut the part when Iron Man get his hand stuck in the rock and was struggling to pull it free.

Definitely not the Stark from the comics from that footage. Which makes me worry a bit. Why change the character? Did they feel Stark was too serious and felt they needed to add humor to it?

I was hoping for a good study of the man inside the suit.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I think the point is to show him as a self-absorbed jerk who will be changed by his experience in Afghanistan. They have to lay it on a little thick to make the change more poignant.

Or, maybe they're just muffing it.

Still, looked cool. I agree with Chuck about the whys of "Iron Man," but it did ring a little false.

Forget Black Sabbath. I hope they can work the theme song to the Marvel Superheroes tv show somewhere in there.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

Two words, actually. But yeah, it's Hollywood -- don't think about the meaning, just feel it. Even if the song was about a maladjusted youth who tortured kittens they would use it, because it's a great riff -- and the song name is the name as the movie title! Wow! How cool is that???

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

I get the connection, I just think it's too obvious and doesn't stand up to scrutiny. I bet you guys would be thrilled if ACDC's "Back in Black" was used in the next Batman movie. Get it? Batman wears black and it's a sequel, so he's "back in black." That's awesome!

For the record, I love Terminator 2 but I really, really hate that George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" is in the movie.

Bad to the Bone dates that movie. But Iron Man doesn't.

Batman Begins established a more serious tone for that franchise in the first film. There is no tone established for Iron Man. The public is unfamiliar with his character. And this isn't the film...it's just the teaser. What is the scrutiny you speak of?

My son hummed duh, duh, duh, DUH, DUH, dunna, dunna, dunna, dunna, dun, duh, duh after watching the trailer. So it worked. People will remember it.

But thanks for the strawman psychology evaluation. I appreciate the insight I gained into my terrible taste, Ben.

Who the fuck gives a shit what song they used in the teaser? It's just that. A teaser. It's not the film!

Anyway, loved how they showed the evolution of the armor in the teaser. Can't wait to see this next summer.

it's only you ben, no one else will ever think about it or care.

it won't be in the movie so no need to be worrying about it.

Well, two minutes of disconnected footage makes a bit harder to see the real deal but this was pretty consistent with different versions of Stark through the years. This character has been around over 40 years and he hasn't been necessarily the most consistently written character (see recent "Civil War" era Marvel for proof of that).

Mostly Stark is a cocky, brilliant, driven man with little regard for the work he does and how it might impact others in the world. This was a part of many origin stories for him. The fact that this version has a sense of humor makes for a fun character. But the idea that he creates weapons with little regard t the damage they cause gives way to realization of the wrongness of his ways and the desire to make good as a Superhero. Classic stuff and they quite frankly nail it in thsi movie trailer.

I also excited about the practical armor effects. That with a fun and human performance by RDJ has me very optimistic about this film.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

The trailer looks very good and has me hopeful that we might see a good Marvel film (because there have been some dogs lately: FF2, Spider-man 3, Ghost Rider, Elektra, etc.)

Last night at the gym, I saw some movie that just looked like crap - it had excessive, consectutive explosions throughout the 20 minutes or so that I saw. When the credits rolled, I saw it was The Punisher.

I have higher hopes (and expectations) for Iron Man.

I don't have time enough to watch all these DVDs!

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

The trailer is great. Downey looks like he might be an inspired choice. Also love the inclusion of the Sabbath song. Hope it makes it's way in the movie, not just the trailer.

I have to say, the fact that Marvel is Producing and is completely in charge of this film (for the first time) without any studio interference has my hopes up.

It was on during the Superbowl. It's also available on apple.com in HD.

I'm sure glad 2005 is finally rolling around so that we can see this movie (In 9 days, this thread will be five years old.)

Some really cool shots there, especially the one of Stark without his helmet in the suit.

Last scene looks a bit too animated, hopefully itll be cleaned up a bit before May.

Looking foward to this one and hope it doesnt disappoint.

Re: Iron Man (New Line sets 2005 release date)

A new trailer is out which I was alerted to via ~1 min version during LOST last night.

Is this movie's sensibilities to the right of the political spectrum or are they going to pull a bait & switch?

I don't know anything about Iron Man, am not really a fan of RDJ, but I really liked his smart ass character from the very first time I saw the first trailer. Then he started flying and that freaked me out a little.

Using the Black Sabbath song made perfect sense, and was fun as hell.
