A specific scene in the original Star Wars finally did it for me.
For years, I watched this on TV and never got the part when Luke was looking for sandpeople through his binoculars he says he doesn't see any, then he says he does see them, but in P&S there's still none on the screen. When I finally got SW on a widescreen VHS, sure enough, there he was in the right-hand corner of the screen.
