Please be gentle.

My favorite is a fairly recent one.

Titanic

Forgetting the post-release hype and hoopla, the film itself is a marvel, and it's ending is pitch-perfect. Ignoring the ? of whether Rose is snoozing or more, it's an amazing shot that goes over her pictures of her life, well-lived and full. At peace with the choices she made, she revisits the most powerful place in her memory, and visits those she lost. It is poignant, heart-wrenching, and very primal.

I'm a sucker :b

Take care,
Chuck

I agree with lots of the others already mentioned...Seven, Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption, Casablanca. I would have to say the ending scenes of the Godfather (Part I), with the door closing, and Kay left on the outside of Michael's world.

Ryan, good call on Godfather I, that ending is pretty freaking good.

Donnie Brasco
Easy Money - "My mother-in-law, I wouldn't so much as kiss her face, and now I end up kissing her ass."[i/] as they party down stairs.
Thief

Shawshank for sure....one of the most emotionally fulfilling, redeeming, and uplifting endings in movie history IMHO.

Truls...you brought up a good one. BTTF II's ending is real cool espcially when doc faints after seeing marty go BTTF !!

Some others:
Two sentimental movies that I am a big sucker for: E.T. and Forever Young. talk about wow!

how bout:
Apollo 13
Batman Returns - love the serenity of the scene as the chilling score plays into the night
Christmas Vacation
Dutch
Ghostbusters
Jurassic Park - again, the storm is over while the wonderful score is played, Dr. Grant with the kids, the pelicans next to the chopper, the fade into the sunset.
Poltergeist - tv out of the motel!

Rocky - classic ending
Royal Tenenbaums
Rudy - yes I'm a sucker...great Jerry Goldsmith score in the entire final scene
Sneakers - the whole thing with the NSA and the TV at the very end

I would have to say that the ending to Shawshank is probably the single greatest ending on film. The sweep over the sea, and Morgan Freeman's voice. Damn fine.

cheers!

So many great ones, and many have already been mentioned...

Let me add bladerunner, the "director's cut" of course.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I think Alien 3 has got one of the most perfect endings ever :b

The whole self sacrifice deal, along with the music, and the replay of the message from Alien, just, well, puts a lump in my throat. :frowning:

Schindler's List
Seeing the living survivors and the families that would never have existed paying their respects to Oscar Schindler at his grave was almost too emotionally overpowering after seeing the horrors that they went through to survive. Probably the most stunning moment I've ever experienced in a theater (the top 5 runner's up probably come from this picture also).

No one's mentioned the greatest shock movie ending of all time, and for me the most memorable...

Here's a clue:

"Oh.. my.. God! I'm home... all the time it was... you maniacs! You blew it up!...
Damn you!... Damn you all too hell!!"

ps. it's not Homer Simpson. :D
