I'd like to know your Top 10 Chinese and Japanese movies. You can do it as two different lists if you want, or you can combine both.
I like asian cinema a lot, but I'm sure a lot of you have seen many more than I have, so I'd appreciate any and all recommendations you may have. Thanks! :)

For Chinese cinema, all I can can really list is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. As for Japanese Cinema, I'd go with the following:

1. Anything by Kurosawa (I'd list my favorites, but that alone would take me over ten)
2. Tales of the Unusual
3. Battle Royale
4. The Samurai Trilogy
5. Chushingura
6. Kwaidan
7. Audition
8. Zatoichi

The top two films on this list are actually my top two favorite films, so suffice it to say, I'm a great admirer of Japanese cinema. :)
Limited to one film per director:
1. Life of Oharu - Kenji Mizoguchi
2. Tokyo Story - Yasujiro Ozu
3. Late Chrysanthemums - Mikio Naruse
4. Twenty-Four Eyes - Keisuke Kinoshita
5. Ikiru - Akira Kurosawa
6. The Burmese Harp - Kon Ichikawa
7. Insect Woman - Shohei Imamura
8. Gate of Hell - Teinosuke Kinugasa
9. Human Condition - Masaki Kobayashi
10. The Sun's Burial - Nagisa Oshima
I'm more familiar with contemporary Chinese, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese cinema, so this list is badly skewed towards the past twenty years.
Limited to one film per director:
1. A City of Sadness - Hou Hsiao-Hsien
2. What Time is it There? - Tsai Ming Liang
3. Yi Yi - Edward Yang
4. In the Mood for Love - Wong Kar-Wai
5. The Blue Kite - Tian Zhuangzhuang
6. Life on a String - Chen Kaige
7. Made in Hong Kong - Fruit Chan
8. Raise the Red Lantern - Zhang Yimou
9. Red Cherry - Ye Ying
10. Farewell China - Clara Law (or The Reincarnation of Golden Blossom if Farewell China doesn't count)

Vulgarian clueless newb list here...

China... I ain't seen nearly enough mainland Chinese films to give any sort of opinion. I'd really like to check out any Chinese historical epic films if I can find them.

Hong Kong... limited to a narrow selection of martial arts films at the moment. I will go with Jackie Chan's "Wheels On Meals", a superb action comedy with plenty of slapstick while not skimping on wit. The Bruce Lee film "Fist Of Fury" (AKA Chinese Connection) is a crudley made-film (it comes off like a watered-down Anthony Mann melodrama with martial arts in it), but with a very compelling story... no wonder it's been remade twice! One can only imagine what we would've had if Bruce had worked with a more talented director than Lo Wei...

Japanese films... I could be all respectable and list Ozu, Ichikawa, that kind of stuff... but screw that, "Mosura Tai Gojira" is tops for me!

A lot of great movies have already been mentioned, and I agree with a couple of posters who said anything by Kurosawa. I would like to mention what I think is one of Kurosawa's best, but which doesn't get much attention: Dersu Uzala. It's my second favorite Kurosawa film, behind only Seven Samurai.
