Brad, what is your opinion of Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress? I'm interested in Kurosawa's work because Lucas has mentioned on numerous occasions that Kurosawa was a big inspiration to him and Star Wars. Also, how's the DVD?

Wow! I like or love pretty much ALL of the directors mentioned so far, especially Scorsese, Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Altman, Lucas, Spielberg, Lynch, Tarantino, Luhrmann, Jackson, and the Andersons (Wes & PT, and yes, I know they're not related). I wish I wish I wish there were as many female names as male names on this list though.
These are my favorite directors though, and the films listed are my favorites by them, rather than a presumptuous "best" list:
Terry Gilliam
Brazil
Time Bandits
The Fisher King
Twelve Monkeys
Good Omens (listed just because I know it's going to be freaking wonderful!)
Stanley Kubrick
A Clockwork Orange
Dr. Strangelove
2001
Full Metal Jacket
Paths Of Glory
Francis Ford Coppola
One From The Heart (a great film with a bad rep!)
The Cotton Club (ditto! I like rooting for his underdog films)
The Conversation
Apocolypse Now (both versions)
The Godfather I & II (sue me)
The Coen Brothers
Raising Arizona
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Big Lebowski
Blood Simple
The Man Who Wasn't There
And here are a couple I haven't seen mentioned yet:
Wim Wenders
Wings Of Desire
Until The End Of The World
The End Of Violence
Paris, Texas
Hammett
Bill Forsyth
Local Hero
Comfort and Joy
Housekeeping
Gregory's Girl
Breaking In
Needless to say, I love all the directors (if they weren't mentioned above) who made the films in my sig too, just for making those films, especially the talented genius Walter Murch, who made a brilliant but doomed film (Return To Oz) and never got to make another one.

Francis Ford Coppola
The Godfather
Apocalypse Now
The Godfather Part II
The Conversation
Bram Stoker's Dracula

Stanley Kramer, Stanley Kubrick, Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, and Orson Welles.

The great thing about many of your lists, is that now I'm gonna have to check out some new films from new directors I've either ignored or not really known.:emoji_thumbsup:
