Young Adam DVD edited? (1 Viewer)

I was watching the previews on my Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring DVD (excellent film, btw) and noticed that the Young Adam trailer advertises that the film is rated R, and after the trailer there's a brief "R-rated version available on video and DVD" disclaimer.

Sony Classics released Young Adam as an NC-17 film in theaters (mostly due to the dock-side sex scene with Ewan MacGregor and Tilda Swinton). Amazon and DVDPlanet both advertise the DVD coming out next week as being rated R, so this is obviously a cut version. What doesn't make sense is why they would release it as NC-17 theatrically and then not make the same version available on DVD, either as separate from the R-rated release or on the same disc via seamless branching.

Does anybody know if this disc is in fact edited and if so, is there a region 2 or 0 DVD available that contains the unedited cut?

the review I read yesterday over at DVDTalk states the film itself is indeed cut but the scene in question (Ewan and Tilda at the dock) is presented on the disc as a deleted scene...so they cut the movie to get an R, and place the NC-17 scene elsewhere as an extra...pretty messed up...don't know about any other region's versions...

Matty-

That is actually a pretty clever way for Columbia to say they are releaing the R rated verison, while (possibly) including ALL of the deleted footage.

I still don't know who they are trying to appease by only releasing an R rated version, and frankly, no one is going to think, "Blockbuster is renting porn!" because they are stocking Young Adam in any version.

Oh well. I won't be buying until the unrated cut is available. If Ewan and the director prefer I see the version with more of Ewan's penis, I am all for that!

Hmm, to buy or not to buy? I most likely won't, or will at least wait until I can buy a used copy cheap. Maybe the player's program feature could be used to substitute the uncut dock scene with the R-rated version, but that's still a bit of a hassle.

Extremely clever of Columbia. If they put both versions on the disc, it would have to say NC-17, even if there was an R version accompanying it. Now they figure they can rent it at Blockbuster without disappointing the purists. Nice try.

Also, I don't know about anyone else, but my local Blockbuster stocks unrated versions of Bad Santa, The Girl Next Door, and The Dreamers, among others (Hollywood Video only has the R versions). I guess unrated is fine but NC-17 is a no go. Sigh.

I have the UK R2 version and it is the uncut version...including a lingering shot of Ewan's uncut version. The Tilda /Ewan scene is in the film and not as a special feature.
I can't belive that Columbia has ruined the integrity of another movie!!!!! I'm glad I have the UK R2.

First of all, my bad with the Blockbuster comment. Since I started using their online service (and going into the store to redeem the free rental coupons), I've noticed that they stock almost all widescreen and all unrated cuts when available. If you had told me that would happen 2-3 years ago, I wouldn't believe you.

Secondly, does anybody know if there's a region 0 disc of this available? For now, it looks as if the only option for the unaltered version is region 2. I've seen the region 1 disc and at least from the packaging it is in fact rated R with an "extended scene" as an extra.

I believe the only cuts made are to the Ewan/Tilda on the side of the river scene. The scene should still be in the R version, but is somewhat if not considerably less graphic than in the NC-17 cut.
