I saw and ad the other day that said "only game system to offer gaming and dvd's in dolby digital 5.1"

well i know thats wrong cause the DD5.1 on some of my PS2 games is spectactular.

anyone else notice this false advertising?

or are they saying that the x-box has an internal decoder? I honestly dont know if it does or not.

The games offer in game DD 5.1 through hardware. DD 5.1 is not in game on PS2, only in cinemas. There are some 4.1 DTS games on PS2, but Xbox has an internal DD encoder.

    The Xbox is native DD5.1

Now they probably shouldn't have included DVDs in there.

Does the PS2 offer 5.1 when playing both games and DVD's or just one?

PS2 offers DD 5.1 on DVDs if you are using the optical cable. It does not offer DD 5.1 in games, except in cutscenes in some games. It can't in real-time.

Some PS2 games do offer DTS, however.

The X-Box has the hardware to do real-time DD 5.1 in games.

I thought the bouncer from square was in DD5.1 or is that just cut scenes as well? cause they have DD5.1 plastered all over the front of that one

Only a few games (maybe 3 at this point, I'm fully aware of two) on PS2 have DTS in real-time.

Yeah, there's a lot of fine print in there. Regardless, it's one of the best game ads I've seen in a while.

The title of this thread is misleading. [IMG]
John, are you saying the DD 5.1 during cut scenes with your PS2 is spectacular?

No to be honest i think they make terrible use of DD5.1 in the cut scenes for well every PS2 game ive played. but my point was that as good as that X-box ad is it implied to me that x-box is the only console capable of delivering DD5.1 for games or dvd's

now my original post may not ahve been word for word accurate, i think it was, but no gurantees.

either way i still disagree with companies putting their own spin on things and using creative wording. I see this kind of thing all the time in Martial arts, some schools will go around telling everyone that hey ahve 5 world champions at their school, what they leave out is that they started their own martial arts federation held a tournament in their school and called it the world championships for their federation. hey everythign they said is accurate and there is nothing to stop them from doing it, but the details they leave out give a very different impression.

what MS should have said is "only system to deliver DD5.1 both in game play and for dvd's"

that at least would ahve been less misleading, but then there is no law says they have to tell the whole truth.

hey did you guys know i was vice president? ............. (of my scout group as a kid) where was the vital info there?

    thats my only point.
