So, I finally got a surround set up, it's a box setup Sony ht-ss2300. I set it up today while the girlfriend was at work. She was skeptical when I picked this up off Craigslist for $80.00, and definitely had some doubts. She is happy with our televisions stock speakers. Anyways to get to the point, we have a rectangular living room probaly 10' × 20', and a sectional couch that only fits one way, so this pretty much dictates where the entertainment center has to go. The way we view the television is at a 45º angle in the room, and needless to say this puts one of my surround speakers out into the middle of the ceiling. She's not happy, and says it is now the focal point of the room. Any advice, on dealing with my set up, or smoothing it over with the significant other would be helpful. Also we have small children so low hanging fruit is not an option.
