my question is if you just got your toshiba hd a1 would you be able to just use the 2.0 update for example and receive all the features that were present on the previous updates?? or do you need to start for 1.? on up to 2.0??

Yes, the latest firmware version is all inclusive of the previous versions.

The latest version released is 1.4. There are rumors of 2.0 coming possibly as soon as September. I went directly from 1.0 to 1.4 and it worked just fine.
