i forgot to put "front projectors". lol!!!

silly me.

the question i wanted to ask is if 1080p front projectors will hit those price points and if so, when do you expect that? i'm thinking 2015.

Of course it will. You can find off brand sets now for that much. Expect around christmas that a decent 42-50 inch 1080p will be in the 2200 range. As for projectors the hope is a little different. As of right now I know of three that are out and all are hovering around the 10k range. I suspect around christmas that there will be around 10 projectors out that will do 1080p and the avg will cost around 6k. I am saving now until the new sets of infocus projectors come out, so i can get my hands on their 1080p (releasing around feb of next year i hope)

Figure we are at least 1 year away from FP units using 1080p at an under $3000 price point. Likely 18 months to 24 months.

40" LCD flat panels at this resolution should come quicker ...

I wouldn't bet your house on that prediction. :)

My BenQ DLP FP 8700+ from 2 years ago which sold for $6K here in Canada has been replaced with the 7700 with can be had at $2100 retail.

Figure the 10K units dropping in price by 30-40% to the next generation and within 2 years ... it is at $3000.

Some are already talking about the Panasonic AE1100 LCD projector at 1080p ... potentially. 9 years away ... unlikely ... thank goodness.

sure about that? 1080p isn't exactly a commodity product like the 720p projectors are becoming.

1080p projectors were 30K a couple years ago with the Qualia 004, now the Ruby at under 10K (and a better projector) and Sony apparently intends to release one cheaper than this that seems to be expected to MSRP at 5K which means it'll street probably a good deal less than that, so yes I expect 1080p FP to be in that pricerange within a couple years. I doubt 1080p DLP will hit those pricepoints that soon though, that would be extremely surprising.

Looking forward to trying out Runco's first 1080p FPTV ... at $10K price point. Should be interesting ...
