Here are some movies that are so weird they're scary:
Eraserhead
Blue Velvet
Forbidden Zone
The Doom Generation
Manos
(I didn't say they were all good movies... )

Scary: The Exorcist, The Shining, Moulin Rouge-it's scary that someone made this one.

I still find Night of the Living Dead to be scary!
As for weird, well, I'll go with The Reflecting Skin, Santa Sangre, El Topo, and Even Dwarfs Started Small.

For just plain weird, I have to go with one I just finished watching.
Donnie Darko
I'll be watching again tomorrow. Don't be swayed by some of the negative comments about this one, Open your mind and give it a shot.

Weirdest movies:

Manos, The Hands of Fate

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Being John Malkovich

Scariest:

Psycho and Nosferatu.

Psycho is a perfect film as is Nosferatu. I do mean the 1922 version of the F.W. Murnou film, of course. The scene with Orlock rising from his coffin, then walking slowly into Hutter's room is great. The light touch of humor to both Psycho and Nosferatu makes the horror even more stunning.

Nothing else comes close: Robert Wise's original, unsurpassable The Haunting (1963). If you haven't seen this black-and-white widescreen classic of horror, you don't know how good it can get--and all without special effects or any direct evidence of the haunting spirit. It's what you don't see that's really scary.

Jack,

I remember seeing a classic horror film a few years back that was absolutely amazing. I was thinking it was The Haunting, but I'm not sure. I figure you can help me with that. One image I clearly remember was a very tall, narrow, spiral staircase. Does that sound like The Haunting?

Not only does it sound like The Haunting, it is that film. Yes, the spiral staircase, the nursery, and the library are all "stars" of that uniquely creepy and unnerving film.

Thanks Jack.

That is an outstanding film. One of the creepiest things I have ever seen.

I didn't read through this entire thread. Has anyone mentioned The Changeling ? That is the scariest movie I have ever seen. It is very good too. Stars George C. Scott. One of my all time favorite mvies.
Copycat freaked me out when I was about 11. I couldn't sleep after watching it.
Wierdest? Twin Peaks. I haven't really seen many weird movies. I need to get with it.
