I have had the following setup for about 5 years now but I have never been able to achieve decent sound quality out of it. I bought the speaker system separate from the receiver and my guess is that one or the other is under-powered, which is why the system as a whole has poor quality. Receiver: Sony STR-DG600 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver Speakers: Yamaha NS-AP2600BL Woofer: Yamaha YST-SW010 I am a fan of good surround sound but the quality of this system has made me not turn the surround sound on anymore. and I am not ready to spend more money on this stuff (until I figure out what the issue is). Can anyone shed some light?

Certainly not high-end stuff but it should sound decent enough. how is the receiver connected to the other equipment? Red and white analog cables or digital cables? Did you calibrate the volume levels, distances and crossovers manually, with the setup mic or not at all?

Certainly not high end but I have seen at least 2 other HTIB systems, cheaper in price and sounding WAY WAY better. Receiver is currently connected to the TV via Toslink Optical. I remember calibrating via auto calibrate and at some point manually increasing the levels for either front or rear channel.

Do you think the speakers are under powered for this receiver?

Why are you using the TV as your "hub"? That right there is at least half the problem.

Ok I misquoted myself. The optical cable goes from the cable box to the Sony receiver. And then I also connect my iPad to the Sony receiver with a 3.5 mm to RCA cable

Ok, now that that is squared away... Have you gone into the STB to turn on the DD? You can't base music from an Ipad on "sounds good or not" either...since MP3 music is sonically lousy.
