Ah, the ol' expanded Darth/Luke in the Cloud City air shaft scene.
That was first posted here a little over a year ago, I think.
Still very funny though.

if spoken in the voice of LORD DARK HELMET, even funnier.

According to TPM script, the Sith warred amongst themselves and were thought to be destroyed. The remaining Sith decided that in order to avoid internal conflicts there would only be two Sith at any one time.
The kicker is that this all took place after the Sith dropped off the Jedi radar. In other words, Yoda should not have known how many there were since, when the Sith adopted this system, the Jedi thought them completely destroyed.
Again, according to the script, there are only two Sith PERIOD at any one time.

A Sith is just the name of an order of dark force users. One can "go to the darkside" and not be a Sith. I don't know if this matters in this discussion, I thought I'd just throw that in.
A quick point about lightsabers: they're not used just for dueling against someone else with a lightsaber. The movies show them being used in lots of other situations. A lightsaber handled by a force user is the perfect hand-held weapon. You can defend against gun fire, it's compact, extremely powerful, quick, and accurate. It's the Star Wars version of a Katana blade.
And yes, Darth Sidious' new apprentice will be Anakin.

Great little club, that. "It's better we have only 2 guys fighting the Jedi, than 10,000 fighting both the Jedi and internally. Yeah, that's right, we'll now only allow two members in our little Sith club, me and Larry, cause we're cool! You guys can start your own club, haha!"

And yet they *did* still manage to wipe out most of the Jedi...

For that to be the case then Sidious would have to have taken on a new apprentice immediately after the demise of Maul. So is this new apprentice just waiting in the wings for his call? How does one go about applying for this position? Is there some kind of a Sith Lord nursery?

Mike Broadman, I know a LS can do that , Lucas had to invent other uses, otherwise it would be a dead end weapon, just like today swords.

Another thing I don't like about Lucas's Sith, Lucas says the Sith fought each other to extinction, before eliminating the Jedi, their most hated enemy. It would make more sense if the Sith eliminated the Jedi first, then fought each other for final Leader/Master!

Of course, in subsequent films, Lucas could quite easily CHANGE the 2 sith rule, and simply declare the change was what he wanted all along....

Not really. What would they say? "I hate you and I plan on killing you, but let's kill the Jedi first."

As for the bad rap about the characters--hey, I've seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They're called "Star Trek" movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day. --Roger Ebert on The Phantom Menace

Episode II and potential Episode III spoilers:
Spoiler:It is believed that in EII Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus/Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) are the two Siths, with Sidious being the master and Tyranus the apprentice.
This will continue to be the case until sometime in Episode III, when Dooku will be killed off somehow and Anakin/Darth Vader will take his place as Sidious' apprentice. . .

and I thought falling to the dark side was so tempting. If the darkside was so tempting and easy, there should be more Sith than Jedi!
Don't confuse a someone who falls to the dark side as being synonymous with the Sith. The Sith is an organization. A small one of only two members, granted. The poor jedi candidate who succumbs to the dark side is only that, a failed candidate. He is no more a Sith than a petty crook is a mob boss in the mafia.
Given the rigorous training the Jedi used in selecting their trainees (they didn't want to train Anakin despite his high force potential) I would imagine that those who would succumb are quickly weeded out during early training before they reach Anakin's age.
And we know that before one can truly be a Jedi, one must prove that they won't succumb to the dark side. That test probably kills those who fail it at a later point.

what about that part in ESB or ROTJ when Vader says to Palpatine that Luke Skywalker would 'join them or die'? wouldn't that make them 3?

But each Sith was planning on taking young Skywalker as their apprentice, while killing the other, thus preserving the 2 Sith rule. In ESB Vader says to Luke "You can destroy the Emperor" and "together we can rule the galaxy as father and son." When he failed, it was the Emperor's turn. In ROTJ, Luke and Vader fought each other, with Luke winning. The Emperor says "Now fullfill your destiny, and take your father's place at my side!" Palpatine was counting on Luke to kill Vader and become his new apprentice.

According to "several" different things I have read about the Sith, the Sith are something else besides a Dark Jedi. They are two different entities. The Sith are Dark Jedi's who have mastered other powers, usually called "Sith Magic". There was always one Dark Lord of the Sith, but everyone under him, were always fighting for the spot. The Sith were actually a race of beings that were ruled by Dark Jedi. The Dark Jedi then learned the Sith's secrets and became even more powerful.
This is all coming from memory, so I am not sure if this is all exact.

Guys there is no such thing as Dark Jedi in the movies, That stuff is EU(Books, Game etc.). If there were Dark Jedi, why didn't Qui say to the Jedi council, I think it was a Dark Jedi, especially if there are more of them than Sith? If you notice Yoda, or was it Mace assume its the 1000 year old extinct Sith, not even mention of Dark Jedi.
