    Falling Down
Blu-ray Book and Deluxe Edition DVD
    Debut May 26
Bonus Features Include New Commentary by Michael Douglas
& Director Joel Schumacher, a New Interview with Douglas

Burbank, Calif. January 27, 2009 – On June 11, the American Film Institute (AFI) will honor Academy Award® winner Michael Douglas (Wall Street, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest) with their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Leading up to the event, on May 26, Warner Home Video will debut Falling Down on both Blu-ray and DVD, featuring an outstanding performance from Douglas in this searing tale of urban reality about an ordinary man at war with the everyday world. Joel Schumacher (The Phantom of the Opera, Batman Forever) directed this spellbinding thriller which also stars Academy Award® winner Robert Duvall (Godfather I & II), Barbara Hershey (The Right Stuff), Tuesday Weld (Looking for Mr. Goodbar) and Rachel Ticotin (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants).

Falling Down will be available for the first time in high definition in premium Blu-ray Book packaging ($34.99) as well as a Deluxe Edition DVD ($19.97 SRP). Both versions boast new special features including commentary by Michael Douglas and director Joel Schumacher, and a conversation with Michael Douglas entitled Deconstructing D-FENS. The Blu-ray Book also contains over 30 pages of filmmaker and talent bios, a discussion of the film, an examination of the “bad guy,” photos, and more.

Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall star in several films in 2009, making this release even more timely. Douglas is scheduled to star in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner; Solitary Man with Susan Sarandon and Danny DeVito and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt with Amber Tamblyn. Robert Duvall will be seen in Crazy Heart with Maggie Gyllenhaal as well as The Road with Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron.

    Synopsis
Freeways are clogged. Terror stalks our cities. At shops and restaurants, the customer is seldom right. Pressures of big-city life can anger anyone. But Bill Foster is more than angry. He’s out to get even.
Foster abandons his gridlocked car – license plate D-FENS – on the hottest day of the year and walks straight into an urban nightmare both absurdly funny and shatteringly violent. Academy AwardÒ winner* Michael Douglas is Foster, an ordinary guy at war with the frustrations of daily life. Fellow OscarÒ winner Robert Duvall is the savvy cop obsessed with stopping Foster’s citywide rampage. This spellbinding thriller is their story, asking “Are we falling apart?”

Now I'm sure this studio has completely lost interest in regular DVD. The only thing "Deluxe" about this disc is the price - Twenty dollars for a commentary and interview? I wouldn't pay more than $8 and even if I had a Blu-Ray player I'm not particularly interested in experiencing Downtown L.A. in hi-def[IMG] Everything went downhill at Warners ever since Poltergeist but I forgive them since they've done a stellar job elsewhere.

Considering the features are the same for both releases, I don't know what you're talking about.

The commentary and the interview seem fine for this film. It's an entertaining film (although I think it's ruined to some degree where it become apparent that Douglas's character is truly crazy) but there's nothing all that remarkable about it that would require extensive special features (although maybe some deleted scenes would be nice if available). And with that MSRP, the DVD won't be all that expensive.

I'll probably buy the DVD and skip the BLu version. Always liked this one.
