I have been having a problem with my satellite receiver,
every day for a couple of hours it emits a fairly high pitch whine, whilst we have now developed through time
a 'deaf ear' to it I would still be glad if someone knows
how I can rectify this problem.
    Thanks in advance

What make/model is it? Some receivers have fans so that could be the problem.

I'm not sure if it has a fan but I know the hard drive makes noise when it spins. You could apply some sound deadening material on the inside of the case. While inside if you notice a fan, you could replace it with a better/quieter model. You void your warranty as soon as you open the case though.
