Hi all,
I was wondering if someone has an updated list. I am specifically interested in the new Panasonics and Toshibas. What does one look for in a specification to know if the TV supports "vertical squeeze"?
Also, for those that are now getting HDTV programming... is most of the primetime programming available 16:9 or 4:3?
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
The Sony Wegas do the squeeze. The competing line of Panasonics also do the squeeze (don't know their model names). Some people report fiddling with their Toshiba's service menus to hack a squeeze, with good results.

Jeff,
Tha Panasonic Tau's do the squeeze. Just to make things harder, some of the sets that do the squeeze only do it for 1080i signals. So DVD's playing at 480p don't get squeezed.

Jeff, all of Toshiba's recently introduced 2001/2002 4:3 HD models do the squeeze. Panasonic's 4:3 HD direct-view sets do it, but their projection sets only squeeze for 1080i HD input.
The Toshiba's also scroll the image up and down the screen to prevent phosphor burn-in.

My JVC 27" and 5-year old Sony 32" both do it, although you have to enter the service menu on both... I have only tried it once on the Sony, but I regularly do it on the JVC and it only takes about 30 seconds...
