I'm awaiting my preorder as well. Nice to add to the ranks of classic sci-fi films in my collection. There's something about the sci-fi films of the real life space age that are just bursting with possibility and vision, even the more pessimistic ones.

Just viewed it and it looks great!

One other thing, it's DD 1.0, so you only get the center speaker...how lame is that!

I haven't gone over what was on the LD and compared it to the DVD, I'll let someone else do that.

I watched it on a ISFed Mit CRT RPTV 65711, so when I say it looks good, it looks pretty good.

Since the SFX are pretty crude (Considering the budget) they will really show up when it comes out in high def.

I would love to retire my LD, but it was signed across the front cover by both stars a few years back at a special screening.

All in all, a great addition to anyones sci fi collection!!!

John, calm down, I was just jesting! Sheesh! [IMG]

Tony... John Sparks has blown a fuse. Fuses spark when they... ah, forget it. He made an honest mistake, but originally, it sounded like he had went a bit mad in saying that Criterion had gone HD/Blu-Ray all of a sudden. Being a Criterion Forum.org member, I know that he would have gotten much worse comments than the light humour I threw his way, believe me. In any case, apologies, John, no offense was intended.

    John:

I still haven't seen any official news from Criterion saying they are going HD, only stuff on the fan forum. There isn't an announcement I can find stating this title will be released at the end of the year on HD. Can you please provide some backup for your claim?

Noted a few others "glee" regarding the cover art. If it is the version I see advertised out there,it is without a doubt some of the worst I've ever seen this year. A poorly rendered illustration with dull colors and focusing on Mona of all the characters, now THAT is lame!

The laserdisc sported some of the original artwork, which was ok I guess, though it was horribly dulled down with a rust orange as the predominant hue (referencing Mars I suppose). Nonetheless, other than that it was a great release.

Does anyone know how much of the special features from the original LD is being left out of this DVD release? I would like to know what is lacking as I'm sure Criterion is not likely to port everything over. Too bad.[IMG]

Got mine yesterday and I think it looks great. Dabbled in the special features for a few minutes, which I enjoyed. I like the cover art (which is by Bill Sienkeiwicz of Marvel Comics fame).

Looking forward to sitting down with the movie this week or this weekend.
