What's the difference between these 2 Sony Trinitron TVs (1 Viewer)

Anyone familiar with these older Trinitrons. Someone gave me a couple of them, and both look itentical except one has the buttons on the bottom, and the other one has them on top. The one on the left is a KV-27V25 and the one on the right is a KV-27V42. Which one is the better one to keep here? I am keeping the better one for my bedroom TV and donating the other one to Goodwill.

I used to have a kv-20v25. Nice set. A lot of fine tuning was possible via the service menu.


The v42 should be newer, but check the manufacture dates. Should be on the back plate. And check and see if either are obviously.... not happy.

The V25 is a '96/97 model while the V42 is a '99

The V25 has PIP with a single tuner, the V42 does not appear to have PIP

The V42 has a V-chip, no info on the V25

Both have 3 A/V inputs


The V25 may have been a model supplied to a single dealer since I could not find a service manual, just limited info. It is probably a version number change from some other master model.
