I live about an hour away from Montreal, and just a few minutes ago, I heard a scary report on my local radio station. They said a 6 block radius in downtown Montreal was being evacuated due to a possible biological agent found in a delivered letter!!!???! What the hell is going on? Can anyone confirm this?

Anthrax is indeed a lethal bacteria. The inhaled form of the infection is usually fatal unless you get treatment ASAP. Even a few hour delay is usually too late.
Botulism Toxin is also very deadly. One measuring cup of the toxin is potent enough to kill every human on the face of the earth!

I'm glad it's a false alarm. I think they overreacted, but I guess it's understandable.

Yes, but heavily diluted it can be used to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles! (I'm not making this up. The cosmetic treatment called Botox involves injecting a diluted solution of botulism toxin, usually around the eyes, to get rid of wrinkles.)

Scary stuff. Interesting, but damn scary...
------------------
He thought on homeland, the big timber, the air thin and chill all the year long. Tulip poplars so big through the trunk they put you in mind of locomotives set on end. He thought of getting home and building him a cabin on Cold Mountain so high that not a soul but the nighthawks passing across the clouds in autumn could hear his sad cry. Of living a life so quiet he would not need ears. And if Ada would go with him, there might be the hope, so far off in the distance he did not even really see it, that in time his despair might be honed off to a point so fine and thin that it would be nearly the same as vanishing.

Yes Anthrax is very treatable. However the symptoms that usually hit first are the typical flu-like things so most people will think they are coming down with a cold. By that time its usually too late. In my microbiology class a few years ago our professor told us about a small island in the atlantic somewhere that the british experimented with anthrax biological warfare with. To this day no human can step foot on it because it's loaded with anthrax spores.
