Cars made $461 million worldwide, sold more than 15 million copies on video and, mostly important, has moved more than a billion dollars in merchandise. I know the internet hates the movie (for reasons that I can't understand) but clearly millions of children loved it.

My list of films I detest would be long. And I've seen some shitty films in my time on this planet.

And while Pretty Woman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas,Fantastic Four, True Lies,as well as anything Apatow or by Rob Zombie would be near the top of my list,Im gonna go for broke and say....

Gone With The Wind has been moved to number 2 and replaced by...

My reason for hating it is it doesn't make any sense! They're cars! They have no arms! How the hell do they maintain themselves?!?! It's "Maximum Overdrive" made more retarded! "Finding Nemo" works because despite being fish, they mostly behave as fish, and the toys of "Toy Story" behave like toys and the bugs of "A Bugs Life" behave like bugs, all in the worlds the movie created. The cars of "Cars" though don't have thumbs or arms, they can't function as anything other then cars, AND THEY DON'T BEHAVE LIKE CARS! They have houses? How? No arms means no building! The world would fall a part! How the hell did all those cars get into that car stadium?? You can't park cars on top of cars like that!! It's never acknowledged! CHRIST I HATE THIS MOVIE! And I'm clearly miserable and intolerant to certain things in movies! :P

Also, sales aside, children should NEVER BE TRUSTED! See Justine Bieber, Twilight, The Wiggles, and the continued ability of Eddie Murphy to get kids movies made for ample examples that success with children should never be the gauge of creating art! NEVER EVER EVER NEVER!

Well, I could argue that the reason you think they are a-holes is just because you didn't see the whole thing, but I can also understand that if you found it that boring, why would you ;)

It is quite good, though...and while they are adulterous, they are not necessarily a-holes, so give it another chance :)

(edit: what's with my reply coming above the quote, it that an Opera bug?)

I am with matt on the "Gore Porn" movies. I won't even bother with watching them as I too agree that I would rather my children watch something with nudity and sex in it any day over this shit. All of them should be X rated to say the least. The only film I watched that I shook my head and wondered why it was even made was Happiness. That was a huge waste of celluloid.

You do realize the same could be said of numerous childrens movies. "They are zoo animals with no opposable thumbs, how do they build a way back to New York" etc... "Winnie the Pooh is a stuffed bear! How does he survive the rain at all!" etc. :) It's fantastical thinking. Cars is the Pixar flick aimed at the youngest set. My kids have outgrown it, but when they were 3-7, it was their favorite. And I'd prefer that to total crap like "Teletubbies".. try watching that without your brain falling out

For me it's EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS. This could have been an excellent modern day "Big Bug Movie," instead they decided to go the GREMLINS route and make it Sci-Fi/Comedy. And there were just too many spiders. I wish they had just paired it down to one, and the fact that all the spiders were sort of working together didn't work for me either. What a waste. Thank God I don't come across this flick very often on cable. When I do I get the urge to hammer a fork into my head. Weird, ha?

Recently: CASINO ROYALE. Bleah! I was really turned off from the get go with that completely idiotic chase in the building under construction and the crane. I kept wondering why I was suddenly watching a Spiderman movie where the characters start climbing and jumping everywhere like insects at 100 miles an hour. I tolerated the first half (just barely), then watched the second half in fast forward. ALL the characters in the movie were annoying jerks.

That's it, no more new Bond films for me. Yes, the Roger Moore, etc, flicks were exagerated too, but in a cartoonish humorous way.

Bottom line, let 007 step on a land mine in the next one please...

While we are at it, I generally hate action movies that are filmed in shaky extreme close up with an edit every half second (meaning you can't see what the hell is happening), where the hero keeps surviving one highly impossible situation after another. Thank goodness they throw all those bits in the trailers, so I know what to avoid.

Come to think of it, the original Die Hard was the beginning of the end for me...

    Interesting thread.

While I truly detest some of the films mentioned here (Armageddon, Superman Returns, Independence Day), I have FAR stronger feelings about the television show GLEE than any film. I hate, hate, HATE that show!

I thought I was the only Glee hater here. I haven't been so offended by a show's existence and popularity with the general public since Friends (which I still think is the worst TV show in history). I know only two people who like that autotuned mess and one of them insulted me for not liking it. Welcome, brother! You're in good company here:

The Million Dollar Hotel with Mel Gibson. I normally can finish watching any film. I mean, I even managed to finish watching the boring, shitty, incomprehensible Magnolia, even though it took two days; however, 30 minutes of TMDH was more than enough.

Tony Scott's nightmare-inducing double feature of Man On Fire and Domino are two of the worst I've seen in the last decade, as well as Seed Of Chucky, Transformers 2, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys II (hell, just insert all Michael Bay movies and save some space...), Van Helsing, The Mummy Returns (I don't like Stephen Sommers, either...), Tideland...
