I have the analog version and it does the job quite nicely.

The cheaper being the analog version. It's the one I've always used and gotten great results.

The Radio Shack analog SPL meter is said to be better than the digital version.

I thought I would check some of the places I buy parts and test equipment from to see what SPL meters they had. Most cost several hundred dollars but I did find one comparable in price and features to the Radio Shack unit:

Rad Shack analog..... better than the digital....best buy for the buck (in Canadian that is). Can you not order one off the net? Just paid (month ago) $45 from the shack. My uncle has had an analog for about 15 years and he still uses it.

The main reason I'd go with the Radio Shack Analog meter is that there are published correction values for frequency response... not a big deal if you're just setting levels but if you're using it to map frequency response or EQ then you'll appreciate having correction values readily available.
