I deal with the race at the stop light crap all the time. My wife drives a stock 01 Lexus IS300 and always has stories about some import, Camaro or Mustang driver trying to race her. We took it up highway 1 in California to a trip up to San Francisco at around 1:00 am the handling is awesome it was 2 hours of non-stop twists & turns with out another car in sight.

I drive a Buick Roadmaster wagon on 20’ wheels that drivers of 80’s Camaro and Mustang love to try to race me. The funny thing is my fastest car is my 86 Dodge Omni that no one will race me in.

The WRX is a Subaru Imprezza (SP?) WRX
Correct spelling is Impreza. It's a 227 HP, turbocharged 2.0 flat four (boxer), all-wheel drive, sports sedan. One of the best performance buys going for the last 2 years. Car and Driver's 10 Best 2 years running, Automobile Mags car of the year in '02, Edmunds's Editors Most Wanted in '02. That's why one is waiting in the parking lot for me to climb into... 5 more minutes :D

I'd get banned from the forum for calling the Miata what I really feel it is B_ _ _ _ Bucket
Ever driven one? If you haven't I bet if you did your opinion would change very quickly, if you at all value the handling of a car and not just straight line acceleration.

From dictionary.com

sports car
n.
An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds.

Sounds like a Miata to me.

P.S. can you tell I am defending my baby

What else could be more fun to drive around a track than a Miata? All I can think of is cars that are way out of everyone's price range...

miatas are fantastic handling cars. there is an entire racing series built around them (Spec Miata) that is a great way for people who aren't made of money to be able to go out and race competitively.

You can buy a used WRX for $4,000 spend another couple grand on saftety equipment and suspension upgrades and go racing in a SCCA sanctioned race series?

No?

Didn't think so.

Wasn't aware of a WRX series either, don't think there is one. It was cool of Subaru to give a free membership to the SCCA for WRX owners in 2002 though.

Miata is one of the cheapest ways to get into serious racing, another cheapy being the spec RX-7.

The rex does make a great rally car, I will give you that.

I'm out of touch because you can't take a joke?

right-o...

to get back on track, the miata can be called a roadster, but calling it a sportscar in any sense of the word is a hell of a stretch. I'd sooner call a celica GTS a sportscar..
I'm also surprised to see the MR2 hasn't come up..

Automobile magazine disagrees with you http://www.automobilemag.com/awards/2002mazdamiata/

So does the Guinness book of world records
http://www.miata.net/news/guiness.html

As does Forbes
http://www.forbes.com/2001/07/30/0730feat_2.html

I have to pull a quote out of the above link:
"Just like the whole car, in fact, which is without a doubt the purest definition of a sports car sold today."

And another who disagrees with you.
http://www.nctd.com/review-intro.cfm?ReviewID=1128

A quick quote "2002 Mazda Miata The definition of sports car."

Automotive.com would also disagree with you.
http://www.automotive.com/reviews/ma...ro_lineup.html

Quote: "More zoom for the quintessential sports car."

Motor Trend.

Car & Driver

Road & Track

I could go on all day.

Now calling the WRX a sports car is a hell of a stretch. It's a sports sedan, a good one too and a hell of a bang for the buck. But a sports car it aint. Sports cars don't come with four doors and four seats, sorry.
