Discs that you should avoid...

1.FLIPPERS-such as r1 DAS BOOT D.C.
2.ASIAN films released by HOLLYWOOD studios...most of them are edited versions. Not the original asian cut.
3.M.A.R(modified aspect ratio) release...errr...depends on individual preference. We cannot stop you going F.S.Personally,my DVD collection are 99.9% widescreen, except BEEGEES ONE NIGHT ONLY concert DVD which is in fullscreen...

If you like music videos, avoid Metallica's "The $19.98 Home Vid - Cliff 'Em All" DVD. It is unwatchable due to the terrible source material (Not the band you wise-ass). It looks like it was transferred straight from craptastic VHS - in fact, I think it was!

I love Metallica, but I traded this one back for store credit at some store in the mall.

To Yang and everyone else:

I hope you read the original post that the discussion is about discs that have audio/video issues, not regarding aspect ratio and censorship.

I would like to mention that many pornographic DVDs (from various companies) have video problems, to where I believe they were authored from VHS masters. The video problems are more evident on adult movie titles that predate DVD.

Out of my 300 DVDs, I have to say that "The Relic" has probably the worst tranfer to DVD I've ever seen. I believe that it's anamorphic, but it's so fucking dark, that the entire movie, all you are starring at is a pitch black screen, and only in the daylight scenes can you barely make anything out!

Paramount NEEDS to do it over again!!!

Star Trek:Insurrection has some of the worse artifacts I've ever seen. Granted it was on a 50" rear-pro screen, but GOD!! Jaggies, halos, noise, excessive grain, this transfer has everything bad! Even the (intentionally) grainy, desaturated look of Lock, Stock... held up better.

Tremors is also pretty bad, another laserdisc master hastily transferred to DVD. What looked good on laser does not look good on DVD - but it took 2 years for Fox to figure this out! And yet they did anamorphic DVDs right from the beginning here in Europe while they were still releasing non-anamorphic crap in the States. Bizarre.

As for Scarface, it does seem to have a place in the transfer hall of shame - is the R1 version non-anamorphic or something? While pretty lame, I wouldn't consider the anamorphic R2 transfer to be the worst of the worst. Quite watchable indeed, especially for a 20 year old movie.

Robin Hood Price of Theives, horrible non-anamorphic transfer and its a flipper. As well as a very week Dobly 2.0 soundtrack.

A lot of the very early (first) generation movies to DVD had questionable quality especially Warner's disks, which were grainy. Universal's stuff was poor too including Backdraft which came in the jewel cases back then. I don't know if the current versions in the keepcases uses the same master or not but I assume so.

Ouch...
I must have been thinking of something else...maybe my screen is small when compared to you guys. All my collection looks nice to me,nothing disturbing on visual quality to talk about...
On audio, there are some release out there may have audio glitch. But it depends highly on your player and audio processor. Some works fine with certain machines, some does not.
The most popular talked about one,is the first issue of JURRASIC PARK 1 which is bass-less.Another one is MOULIN ROUGE.
These are the only two that i can think of.

(Should we talk about these as well?)
Disc glitch...so far the only title that i know is SPY GAMES with subtitle problem,KATE and LEOPOLD which does not play well with some PIONEER models...

Maybe the forum moderator can compile a glitch list in this forum???
