When it comes to receivers everyone talks about Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, Onkyo, H/K, etc. However nobody mentions Rotel.
I was just browsing Rotel's site and I came across the RSX-1055. It looks like a pretty sweet piece.
Here's the link:
RSX-1055
It's a 5.1 receiver that decodes everything the RSP-1066 does. It's also software upgradable. And the feature I like the most is if you add a separate stereo amp for the mains, the onboard mains can be switched to power the surround backs. How cool is that?
The price seems pretty reasonable too. Retail $1300. I was originally thinking about getting the Marantz 8200, but I'm definitely going to look into 1055 now.

May want to have a talk with Andrew Pratt. Believe he owns one and has also had the 1066.

Andrew Pratt reported that it has basically the same preamp/processor as the Rotel 1066 pre/pro, which retails at $1500. In other words, you'd be getting the Rotel pre/pro with 5 channels of power for less money.

Eduardo,

Rotel does not allow online sales of their products. You will have to find a local dealer.

Hope this helps.

Some one rang? Yes I currently own this receiver and just sold my 1066. The 1055 really is a 1066 with built in amps for less money then the 1066 sells for. I wrote a review here if you do a search for it and there's more info in Club Rotel on the HTGuide site.

Nathan yes and no. The 1055 and 1066 are identical while the 1065 is a close cousin. The 1065 was developed a year before the 1055/1066 twins came out so they feature a few new tricks that are missing from the slightly older 1065 model. I have it on good accord that the replacement for the 1065 is being working as we speak.

Shouldn't that be "less money than the 1065"? Here in Sweden the RSX 1055 costs about US$400 more than the RSP 1066. The RSX 1065 even more, about US$1200 more than the RSP 1066, i.e.:
RSP 1066: US$1800
RSX 1055: US$2200
RSX 1065: US$3000

Andrew 'Rotel' Pratt,

Do you know if Rotel is also working on the replacement for the 1066? I know there's supposed to be a big brother coming out in the not too distant future.

I'm currently saving for a 1066/RMB-1075 combo so I'm interested in how long the 1066 is going to be available. It sure would be nice if a 1066 replacement fixed the bass management problems.

Jim_C,

I would be amazed if there was a replacement for the rsp 1066 as it has only been availbable for 5-6 months. It is true that there are rumors of a "big brother" but it would not be a replacement.

Yeah, I agree. I don't expect it to go away anytime soon. I was just wondering if a replacement was on the drawing board. BTW, didn't the RSX-1065 come out only a couple of months ahead of the 1066?

What I'd really love is a 7 channel 120w amp to match the 1066. Are you listening Rotel??

Here in Canada the 1055 is priced $200 cdn less then the 1066...at least in retail prices.

I don't see the 1066 being replaced anytime soon since it was just released not that long ago. Right now Rotel seems to be working on a big brother to the 1066 that will be about twice the price of the 1066 and will pass THX specs (though it won't sport the THX badge) That's about all i've been told about the new model. I do know that Rotels also working on a new model to replace the 1065 model but I don't think we'll see that for several months or longer.

Daniel those prices in sweden are very high is all AV gear priced that much more then the US and Canada?

Unfortunately, yes they are. You guys are lucky, if the 1055 is cheaper than the 1066 its a bargain! I can't understand why they do that, as you said the 1055 is basically a 1066 with built-in amps - and priced lower?!
The only difference I've seen is that the 1066 supposedly has one more pair of analog inputs and that the S/N ratio is slightly better for the 1066.

Daniel there's no difference that I can see between the number of inputs on the 1055 and the 1066. The reason the 1055 is cheaper here is simply that they'll sell a lot more 1055's then 1066's so its a scale issue...even though it doesn't seem to make sense...economics go figure:)
I sold the 1066 only beacuse I got a very good deal on the 1055 and the added tuner would be useful for my second zone upstairs.

How and when did you get your 1055? I called my dealer and they said they aren't expecting any units until the middle of next month.
