    The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.
I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp
. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain!
If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!
Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

    The Specials

--Some of the worst Sunday flyer ads from Best Buy and Target that we've seen in quite a while. Target doesn't even list any prices on any of the week's new releases! Best Biuy only lists prices for two of the week's new releases!

--The following Blu-rays are on sale this week at Best Buy (more in-store and online):

$9.99: Blind Side, Dumb & Dumber, Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard 3, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Good Night and Good Luck, Heat, Invictus, I Am Legend, Step Brothers, Stret Kings, Stripes, South Park-Bigger Longer and Uncut, Taxi Driver, The Phantom, Tin Man.

$12.99: Machete, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Predators, Unstoippable, Rio.

$14.99 ($9.99 DVD): Journey 2-Mysterious Island, We Bought a Zoo, A Thousand Words, This Means War, The Devil Inside, Project X, New Year's Eve, Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, Jeff Who Lives at Home, Chronicle, In Time.
--Best Buy has the following TV Shows on DVD and Blu-ray on sale this week (more in-store and online):
    $12.99: Eureka S4.0 (DVD), Monk: S 6-8 (on DVD, apiece), SGU-Stargate Universe: S1 (DVD), Stargate SG-1: S1, S4-10 (DVD, apiece), Warehouse 13: S2 (DVD)

    $14.99: Eureka S4.5 (DVD)
    $19.99: SGU-Stargate Universe: S1 (Blu-ray)
--Best Buy Odds and Ends: Pre-order the DVD or Blu-ray of The Hunger Games at BB and get a FREE HUNGER GAMES KEYCHAIN. In-store only A deposit is required and redeemable only at the BB location where deposit was placed. Not valid with other discounts, special bonus, free offer or promotions. Offer good through 8-18-12 or while supplies last.
--At Target this week the following Blu-rays are on sale for $19.99: Toy Story 3, Tangled, Cars 2, The Muppets (more in-store).

--Target is advertising FREE MOVIE CASH to see The Amazing Spider-Man...when you buy Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, or Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray ($14.99 apiece). Spider-Man 1-3 on DVD are also available for $5 apiece.

--For some reason, Target wants you to know that they have the following titles on sale this week ($14.99 DVD/$22.99 Blu-ray): Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, and The Vow.
--Target Odds and Ends: A list of $10 DVDs.

Thanks Mike. Barbarella and Treasure Planet for me. I guess Blu-ray has finally arrived now that Chesty Morgan has hit the format. Just a heads up, that I will be posting a Barbarella contest sometime tomorrow. We are giving away three copies.

I have Home on the Range and Treasure Planet on pre-order from Amazon. Not a penny difference in the pre-order price to the price today. Oh well.

    Thanks Mike!

The review for The Streets of San Francisco: Season 3, Volume 1 can be found here. I hope to have volume 2 up on Tuesday if I can keep to my schedule.

I hope to have the reviews for Treasure Planet and Home on the Range up today at various intervals. I'm supposed to also get some other of this week's vault titles for review (Under the Tuscan Sun, The Horse Whisperer, among others), but they haven't arrived as yet.

Wait, so you're telling me that if I put a deposit down 2 months ahead of time, locking in my purchase of The Hunger Games at a specific store and location, without knowing what sales the competition is going to have ahead of time, that I get a FREE KEYCHAIN????

    SOLD!!!!

Although I've been mostly absent from this thread for a while, I AM looking at upgrading to BD and an HD-TV this summer. (Yup, the last person in America to do so!) THEN...let the double dipping begin!

OK, I don't understand. Perhaps someone can explain it to me. Amazon has Born on the Fourth of July for 13.48 in DVD. But they also have the Blu-ray for 9.99 which includes a DVD (and a digital copy). So for those who don't have blu-ray but want the movie, should buy the Blu, save 3.49 and toss the Blu disk??
    Clearly, I don't understand marketing.

Why would you toss the BD? It takes no additional room on the shelf. Why not keep it in case you do get BD in the future?

Great reviews. Definitely want both of them. It's a shame they aren't in anybody's ad + no Disney coupon. I have a feeling a lot of stores might not even stock them. Wish I hadn't already turned down my Disney Movie Club selection of the month which had them at $19.99 each with free shipping & as a VIP member I'd get a free VIP pin. I'll wait till Tuesday & see if Wally World has them at a decent price & if not I may call DMC & ask if I can change my mind on the monthly selection.

I'm not kidding, Eric. I said I would NOT be rebuilding my collection with Blu-ray versions of DVDs I already owned. But...

Honestly, the deals are just WAY too good. There are so many deals...all the time. It's crazy, I tells ya. Crazy.

Two Disney films I just cannot care all that much about. But, nevertheless, I have added links to the OP!

    Thanks, Matt!

    ==============

As I've written in a number of other places on the forum, I lost all interest in Disney films after 1999's Tarzan. Atlantis and Treasure Planet were the two that started to make me skeptical of Disney's new direction. And I had a ten year old son at the time!

I guess I figured if Alan Menken wasn't involved, I might as well fuggedaboutit. Then, when I saw Menken was connected to Home on the Range, I was thrilled...but then quickly disappointed again.

Oh well. I had those ten magical years from 1989 to 1999. And magical they were for my daughter and I. She aged from three to 13 over that span. While my wife cared for our infant son in 1991, I'd bet my daughter and I went to see Beauty and the Beast 8 to 10 times in the theater! I still think B&tB should've won Best Picture that year.

And there's always Pixar, of course. Lucky they came along when they did.

    Nope...that wasn't me.

To the contrary, I loved Enchanted. I was just speaking to full-length animated features above.

I got a big kick out of how good Enchanted was...especially after seeing the trailer and thinking it would be the goofiest thing I ever saw. Instead, Amy Adams nailed her interpretation of the classic Disney princess and the music added to the experience and I thought James Marsden was perfectly cast. And while Patrick Dempsey was a little stiff...it really worked for the character.

Of the recent stuff, Tangled wasn't awful...but I didn't think much of The Princess and the Frog. I also am one of the few, apparently, who didn't like Lilo & Stitch. I just the entire thing rather annoying--especially the character of Stitch. The animation style rubbed me the wrong way, too.
