Well, based on all the hand-wringing about A&E availability, or lack thereof, in this and various other threads, I went ahead and ordered a copy from DDD to see what all the fuss is about. Only $7.18. Should be here by Friday. :)

Instead of running around the area looking for these needles in their respective haystacks I also ordered them directly from DDD and they already shipped. Has anyone seen either title at Costco?

Target has Columbo S2 for $29.99 (and I used my $5 off coupon for the Grand Opening Sale, final cost: $24.99). They are also carrying the new Green Acres and Mr. Ed sets, plus Fear X, all at $19.99 each!

Sorry, Scott. I HATE when that happens.

HERE'S where I got my Best Buy price.

Hootersville, huh? Boy, I don't remember it that way....but its been a loooooooong time since I've seen an episode. I used to think Mr. Haney was pretty funny. I love Pat Buttram's voice.

I took the plunge with the Friends "bundle" tonight, with the 120.00 off, all 9 seasons came to $170.56 (including tax). Thats 18.95 per season, then with the $50.00 rebate, 120.56 or 13.40 per season. Not bad, since I was going to buy them anyway.

Not bad?!?! Teresa, that's a super bargain! :emoji_thumbsup:

You've sure got a lot of DVD watching to do now! How ya gonna do it? One episode per night? A couple per night? Weekend marathons? Or, maybe one intense viewing until your eyes fall out?

Actually it's only Lisa who refers to it as "Hootersville," probably immortalized in one of Oliver's many solk fongs.

Did you know "Doris Ziffel" was quite a looker in her youth? She once performed with the Ziegfeld Follies.

Barbara Pepper

Does this set have the episode with the chicken laying the square eggs?

Thanks as always Mike & Patrick.

Also, thanks to Don & Chris Duran for the heads-up on the Mary Poppins price roll-back at Wal-Mart. It was in effect at my local Wal-Mart (Murrieta, CA) as well - I picked it up tonite for $13.88 (regular price - not on sale).

I also grabbed Ladder 49 for $14.87 at Wal-Mart.

Lastly, Charly was not to be found at Wal-Mart or Best Buy.

Here's something odd...since the Ziffels have come up in conversation.

I was watching the director's commentary on 1776 this past weekend and in the street scene when Adams and Franklin went to check in on how Jefferson was doing with the writing of the Declaration of Independence...there was a shot of a pig in the street. The director made a point of saying that the pig was Arnold Ziffel and he remembered the entire shot being held up while they waited for the pig to be escorted from his air-conditioned trailer on a near-by set. Howard Da Silva (Franklin) was apparently quite peeved they had to wait for the pig! :D

The shot (with the pig) was only seconds-long, too!

Hi Mike,

Thanks again for all your efforts (I assume a labor of love ;)). Since I split my purchasing decisions between B&M's and Internet I don't know if others have similar purchasing habits or do all their buying from the same source for convenience, etc...

Here is my latest take on the 'experiment' to include various non B&M's in your Weekly RoundUp. It certainly would be useful to me (and perhaps others) if you chose one site as a comparison to the more conventional sites. The original choice of Amazon was interesting but didn't always yield an accurate picture of the B&M vs. Internet price differential. It did, however, provide, as you've pointed out, a bell-weather comparison. In general I see that Amazon is marginally lower than the B&M's (on legacy titles in particular)and that serves my purpose in doing a more comprehensive check to see if I am going to take advantage of 'loss-leader' pricing strategies for a given title with either Target, CC, BB or Costco. Wal*Mart is not convenient to me so they are out of the question. Originally I had posted that I saw a trend of legacy titles not being offered at the B&M's and therefore, even when they showed up in your roundup they were frequently MIA at the stores (e.g. A&E and Charly). I have seen this happen increasingly over the span of the last 18 months. Since we can predict this behavior more and more we can do our own research on dvdpricesearch.com or use your services and go to Amazon. Recently, though, the price advantage that Amazon has provided (e.g. My Own Private Idaho) has yielded some mixed results in that there are delays to the warehouse and possible cancellations thereafter on some of these titles. This can, of course, happen with any of our chosen vendors so we take our chances and for the most part are rewarded by both vigilance and patience.

Bottom line, your initial sampling (including Amazon) is fine and we can take it from there. Your efforts have been put to good use by everyone who reads this thread on a regular basis. My preference is to do business with those stores that are willing to be aggressive on opening week and thereafter go to either Amazon or DDD due to their free shipping options and lack of local taxes (an important factor in my case). Thanks again for considering a change in your lineup. BTW, I love the table format you have adopted :) .

There were *10* seasons of Friends in total, right? I'm waiting for the next big Best Buy bundle bargain. :)

Joel: Thank you. Its a work-in-progress. I really appreciate your feedback.

Zen: Thank you! Another year older. "Graduated" to bi-focals today! Ouch!

Aaron: There were 10 seasons of Friends, indeed. Why are we whispering? :D

My work PC somehow changed to default to a larger font size. I had to change my personal posting settings to at least return my own posts to the size I like 'em. :)

I know this came out last week but if you haven't picked up Hoosier Collector's Edition yet, a Walmart in Metro Detroit had it for only $9.99 today. Check your local store, YMMV. Was marked $9.99 on the shelves and rung up that way. The shelf tag even said Hoosiers CE.

My local Costco had Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, A Bug's Life, and Mary Poppins for $12.99 each. I don't think you can do much better than that.
