Let me get in here and talk about a few things that went on last evening so they can be addressed and not be brought up any further in this thread.
As usual, there is always a minority of participants that totally disregard the fact that we have a page that clearly lists GUIDELINES and IMPORTANT INFORMATION in regards to the chat.
That's okay -- several times during last evening's chat I went out the way to post some of those guidelines.
Well, as usual, there was the minority that still disregarded our posted announcements and caused us some minor inconveniences during the chat.
For the 99% of you that attended and were respectful to the process, I apologize in advance that you have to read this post.
1. Anyone logged in with a nickname was removed. We do understand that perhaps we made a mistake and removed someone who was actually logged in with a real name. If this is the case we apologize. Send me an email explaing the situation and we'll pass your name along to the staff so that it will not happen again in the next chat.
2. Can't explain this enough....the IRC is a funny entity. The order that our people "YO" in will not be seen in the same order on every screen. In fact, it is quite common that we may not see you "YO" in at all. There is nothing we can do about it. We can't have participants sending us private messages complaining about it. By doing so, you distract us from our work. We removed several members last night that took it upon themselves to private message us after we asked them not to.
We are sorry if you felt you were skipped over. Fact of the matter is, we selected the order of participants in the exact order it showed up on MY screen.
3. As noted above, if you sent any of us a private message you were immediately banned from the chat room. Private messages distract us. We asked that it not be done.
4. Finally, we understand some of you had login problems. Again, the IRC is a funny entity. We can't explain what happens to those of you that have problems entering our chat room. I can tell you we had a record-breaking attendance and that the reported complaints regarding access was very minimal.
That should help explain any problems some of you may have experienced last evening. It's all out here in B&W, so I expect that the rest of this thread will be devoted to the chat itself and not any individual complaints about accessing the chat or being removed.
You can always have more kids, but some of these DVD's are probably once-in-a-lifetime releases.
Coincidentally, during the lulls in the chat last night, I was cataloging all the DVD's I'd bought recently which included many of the Warner Classics such as "Mrs. Miniver," "Mutiny on the Bounty," "Gigi," and "Grand Hotel". Way to go, WB!
It's quite interesting to check back on the last Warners chat, just for comparison's sake. For instance, there was a firmly negative response to the idea of any BATMAN : TAS box set. Less than a year later and that's all changed. Some hope then, for anyone disappointed by the exclusion of a favourite.
I think one of the best questions asked last night concerned the release of the '60s Batman series to DVD.
Batman is one of (if not THE) most requested TV release titles. Fans have been badgering Fox Home Video for the past few years to get this show out on the format.
We were told that it was Warner Bros. that was holding up the release due to rights issues. Fox owns the show, but Warner holds the licensing.
The mere fact that the studio offered a "no comment" on the status of the show's release has me slightly anticipating that talks between the two studios are now finally in progress and we could see a release in another year.
Furthermore, I find it hard to believe the rumors that Warner Bros. would be embarrassed that the original '60s show ever existed and for that reason is delaying cooperation. Let's face it -- the show was pure campy fun and should never be considered embarrassing nor should be compared with the Dark Knight type films of today.

In that case, I just hope they release season sets of ALL their animated fair, and that Thundercats dosn't get left behind. . Some of the voice actors are still around, so it would be great to see some extra features..
Some fun moments in there.. this was the best though...
Also got a chuckle out of the comment regarding the new Blazing Saddles SE coming this summer. New 5.1 surround... "wait until you hear the bean-scene". Not sure I want to now!
All in all it was a great chat. I couldn't believe how fast the time went by. 3 hours. Over 265 people online at one time. We really appreciate the way that the majority of you conducted yourselfs in the chat.
I can hear it now as those sounds start in the front left speaker and quickly fly around the room to the other speakers in your system. And when Mongo chimes in it bottoms out your sub and the wife and kids come in yelling "What the hell was that?!".
Great chat! I'm sorry I was not able to participate, but was very happy to hear about the continued spate of classic releases we've almost come to expect from WB.
Nice about face on Over the Edge . Last year, WB said there were poor VHS sales and too little interest on this title, and that it was not in the pipeline. The announcement that it is coming this year was probably the biggest and best surprise for me.
Disappointed to hear that there are no plans for a Cruising release of any kind, despite the rumored presence of a Friedkin director's cut.
With all the upcoming sets and boxes finally shining the torch on some DVD-neglected stars, I was hoping to see John Garfield's name among them. His was not there, but hopefully he will represented in the Gangster box, which he certainly should be. Either way, I am eagerly awaiting this one.
Very curious about the status of Straight Time, Personal Best , 1984's Reckless, Carny, Last Summer , and Petulia, but I don't think their time has come yet.
Sad that there's still no progress with the Dark Shadows movies. :frowning:
I'm also irked about the lack of Dracula AD 1972; apparently no one at Warner has actually watched these movies, or they'd realize that they collectively form a continuous narrative and leaving out one movie is a disincentive to acquiring all of them.
Did anyone ask about the lack of anamorphic enhancement for 1.66:1 (or preserving 1.66:1 movies in that format and not overmatting a la the Hammer horrors)? I didn't see it anywhere but could have missed it.
somehow Ron, i think the rights issues to Batman(tv) will 'magically' be resolved by this time next year.
i just became conscious of the moive Petulia about a week ago. from what i can glean, its supposed to be a very good, underrated movie. the great price points and presentation dvd affords, has allowed me to discover many great films i would otherwise have let slip by. i hope Warner does see fit to release this within the next year or so.
i would even offer them a suggestion for exploiting it- tie it in with some other Julie Christie titles like The Demon Seed, and Far From The Madding Crowd. i'd snap up all three.
good call on John Garfield. Hes one of my favorites too. the Three Daughters movies are great- i would love to have, especially the sequel Daughters Courageous. i think, because i was so satiated finally having Postman in such a beautiful edition, that i was too complacent last night, and didn't try hard enough to get a "yo" in. today, suddenly a bunch of titles are coming to me i would have liked to have seen asked about-
No one asked about the lack of anamorphic enhancement on 1.66:1 titles. Nor did anyone complain about the lack of subtitles on extras, or about snappers - well, only after Warner brought it up themselves....
