Don't underestimate the popularity of The Pretender. I recieved an email from a fan group asking fans to vote. Also, the show was popular enought to cause TNT to create 2 2-hour movies after the show was cancelled from NBC.

Fair enough todd, now explain how the heck Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea rose up from nowhere to second place?

after all, when will I get another chance to really push Titus, which I super-enjoyed?
Titus was another brilliant show that was mistreated by the Fox network. It's their "Mr. Show"

It's not as popular/accessible as "The Simpsons", so I do get some strange looks when I quote the show.

"dunebuggies! woohoo!"

"If I die, please get the porn from under my bed before my mom cleans out my room. And also, if you look at it, keep an open mind."

"I'm thinking of Asian women and licorice"

Oh, if only Chicago Hope was more popular (or people had even watched it). :frowning: It was the West Wing of its day, and much better than ER, IMHO. The early seasons in particular were fantastic, Must Watch TV.

Well Voyage to the bottom of the sea has been in my top 5 most wanted on DVD since they started releasing T.V. shows on DVD. It obviously still has a strong cult following and is ripe for rediscovery on DVD. Its certainly just as good or better than the overrated Lost in Space.
It and Millenium are the only must buys for me on the list.

"Picket Fences" would be mine in a heartbeat, at least the early seasons.

Greg the Bunny is my #1 choice. I'm also interested in Newhart, Ally McBeal, Picket Fences, Remington Steele, and Tracy Ulman. Too bad there weren't six choices :).

I went for

1. millennium
2. The wonder years
3. roswell
4. Ally Mcbeal (its avialable in the UK but i'm a strong supporter of any show with "music issues")
5. Remington Steele

I'd personally only buy Millennium but I know a few people who are interested in the other shows. Where is Hill Street Blues??

Hmm, they don't even list the D.B. Sweeny "Strange Luck" series. No one's mentioned it in this thread either.

Still annoyed to this day since FOX cancelled after one season...

Wasn't John Doe one season as well?

I'm mad as hell that FOX didn't dig deep enough in its video vault for this poll!! The three Fox-owned shows I most want to see on DVD weren't even included: "Batman" with Adam West, "Peyton Place", and "Dynasty"!!! And what about "The Green Hornet", "Daniel Boone", "Land of the Giants", "Dobie Gillis", "Julia", and "Adventures In Paradise"? Whoever created this Fox poll is a complete fool- the exclusion of the above TV classics proves it!

Charles, they probably didn't bother listing the ones that they already know they can't do. I believe this includes Batman and Green Hornet. Not sure about the others.

Charles: Dan is correct. There's no reason to include Batman and Green Hornet when both are tied up in rights issues and legal mumbo-jumbo which prevent them from being released. Fox needs no poll to understand that Batman is desperately wanted by the fans! It would have been out 2 years ago if the legal issues could be resolved. I suppose that the disagreement with Warner will "suddenly" be worked out in time for both parties to make decent amounts of money on this release just as soon as they can tie it into the next film, which is now green-lighted I understand.

Peyton Place the series will probably be held until AFTER the film(s) come to DVD, which has been hinted will happen next year.

Dobie Gillis wouldn't possibly be considered until after the success of next year's Gilligan's Island release, and even so the Dobie series is not highly enough in demand nowadays to warrant a prompt or definative DVD release. I hate to say it, but that series has received a rather small number of votes for release over at TVShowsOnDVD.

The latter is true of both Julia and Adventures In Paradise as well.

As for Dynasty, the TV-on-DVD industry has yet to really decide if "primetime soaps" will sell on DVD. Dallas is rumored to be on-the-way from Warner, and if anything in the world was more popular than Dynasty, it was of course Dallas. I dunno, but Fox might be sitting back and seeing what happens before deciding what to do with Dynasty. Will everyone buy "everything", or do they just want a best-of? Is the serialized format of the show acceptable for DVD viewing? Etc., etc. Indications from sales of Dark Shadows is that soaps on DVD can indeed perform well, but DS has a SciFi/Fantasy element that inspires a cult status for the show among its fans. 24 is certainly serialized, but being such a young show the fans feel that they can decide on individual seasons and "skip the next" if the show begins to suck...with Dynasty the "commitment" would be stronger in consumer minds. Whether you agree or not with the above, the fact is that shows like this are big question marks in the minds of TV-on-DVD sellers...and one that's not easily answered by a poll like this (because the poll's not built to research the "commitment" factor). We'll see which ones end up coming to DVD, if any. I think that the two strongest entries - Dallas and Dynasty - are locks in the end, with runners-up Falcon Crest and Knot's Landing probably also hitting in some form as well. Just my speculation talking there, though.

Charles, I hope that this helps to convince you that the list of shows excluded from the poll isn't foolish at all. In fact, much of the makeup of the poll could be based on "this is the list of shows we could be ready to be producing right away...which one(s) do people want the most?". If that's the case, then the exclusion of classics that couldn't be produced right away no matter what becomes much more understandable.

These rights issues with Batman and Green hornet, you reckon they will be taken care of soon? Both would sell world-wide. Batman for the 60's camp factor and Green Hornet for the zillions of Bruce Lee collectors out there. Can anyone say "Money in the bank". :D

Ps- I'm not a big fan of soaps but if Dallas offered a J.R. hat with every boxset I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Craig, I know nothing of the details. I just happen to be of the opinion that Batman problems, at least, will evaporate when definate money is smelled based on tie-ins to the new movie in the works. That's 2005-ish, though, right?

Green Hornet I don't see any special reason for that to clear up anytime soon, unless parties just decide to get it done all of a sudden. It's not tied up in the Batman thing at all, to my knowledge..completely separate deal.

And now you know exactly what I know, or think I know.

Oh and did I forget to mention, Batman?!

As long as we are resurrecting a five-year old thread, here's my vote for the fourth and final season of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA!

Yes, we've heard there are plans for 2009, and I'm grateful for that ...but nothing's official until it's "official"!
