More of the good stuff from VCI. Eagle's Wing is the cream of the crop in this list of worthwhile and very interesting British films. That's Stephane Audran, not Stephen. French actress who married director Claude Chabrol and appeared in many of his thrillers. [IMG]

Love Story (1944) was retitled A Lady Surrenders on VHS, Fanny By Gaslight (1945) was retitled Man of Evil in the USA, and Caravan (1946) stayed Caravan. I've been wanting to get better acquainted with classic British melodramas produced by the once prolific Gainsborough studio. Most of their films were period pieces. I would not be surprised if Hammer Films acquired Gainsborough's costumes and props when they started doing Gothics in 1957, by which time Gainsborough was out of business. A lot of Hammer talent started out there. Terence Fisher directed The Astonished Heart and So Long At the Fair (both 1950) for Gainsborough, both very fine chamber plays. Maybe VCI can get hold of those in their next wave of British releases, if these do well. [IMG] [IMG]
