An honest-to-goodness favorite of mine.

Not certain I want to double-dip here.

For $13.99, I would recommend this to everyone.

The bonus content looks about the same (based on the description), aside from the DVD and the digital copy.

The only problem with getting the Blu ray of this favourite movie is that I don't have a Blu ray drive in my computer so it'll be harder to edit down to our preferred version.
Our preferred version is simply the movie less the scenes with that dreadful actress with the blown-up lips, the scenes with the Irish actor who has lost or mislaid his wife, and the dreadful girl singer at the close. It's amazing how coherent the film remains with careful editing. And it's a whole lot better in this version.....

Anthony,

Your preferred cut seems a bit extreme, as if 50% of the film is
unappealing to you.

I have told this story before but perhaps it bears repeating....

I first saw LOVE ACTUALLY on a flight. Fell completely in love
with the film by the time I arrived at my destination.

Had no idea that I was watching an edited version for airline use.
When I had the chance to rewatch it on Blu-ray, there were entire
segments dealing with the porno star that I had not seen. That entire
storyline was removed from the airline edit, which is understandable.

It actually made the film worse for me. I didn't care for that storyline
as I thought it slowed down the pacing of the film -- that somehow it
just didn't belong.

I bring this up again because you seem to have your own preferred
version but it greatly exceeds what I would have removed from the film.

All that aside, I still feel LOVE ACTUALLY is a tremendously entertaining
film that I make a point of rewatching every year around the holiday season.

do we know what is different between this anniversary Blu-Ray release, and the prior Blu-Ray release?

A re-mastering/re-coloring/restoration/audio changes? Different set of extras?

I have the original in my hand.

As Mark indicated above, there doesn't seem to be
any new extras here outside of digital copy.

As far as a remastering? It's impossible to find out.
The new "in thing" for the studios is to repackage
pre-existing masters. My best guess is that this is
the same exact Blu-ray.

Have you noticed what Universal is doing with their
70s-90s classics already released to Blu-ray? They
are simply taking the same discs and putting them
in ugly, funky new decades packaging at a lower price.

Um, It is these scenes that MAKE the movie! The girl singing All I want for Christmas is you is one of the best parts of the movie!

This is one of my all time favorite movies, and it'll be a PLEASURE to upgrade my DVD.

I wouldn't change ONE THING about this exceptional film!

Ideally, I would love for a two-disc Blu-Ray of this film. The first would hold the theatrical film (remastered, if need be - though I thought the 2009 disc looked and sounded fine), along with the existing extras, and whatever new extras they may want to produce. They could make a new documentary with current interviews from cast/crew, include Craig Armstrong's score on an isolated audio track, and the theatrical trailer.

Then, the second disc could be some state-of-the-art, new and interactive Blu-Ray that allows viewers to mix and match which stories (out of the nine) they want to watch. Like, one could decide that they just want to watch the "Jamie and Aurelia" story. Or, they'll make a list that will play "Juliet, Peter, & Mark," "Daniel and Sam," and "Sarah, Karl, & Michael." Or, as Ron first saw the film, the whole movie without the "Jack & Judy" story.

And that doesn't even take into account the roughly 90 minutes of deleted scenes (including some of the fully-deleted stories, like Bad Bernard or the Headmistress, or the posters-in-the-office). But asking for that second disc at all is already asking for too much...

Albert
