Are there any cost-effective upgrades for a 2.5 yr old MacBook Pro (aside from RAM)? My MBP is 2.5 years old, and I expect to have it for 4-5 years total. It's been feeling a bit more sluggish with newer versions of iWork and iLife and particularly when my wife logs in to her account to run Parallels and do finances. I ordered a 4 GB RAM upgrade from Crucial last night, thinking that will help user account switching. Is that it? I was interested in an SSD drive upgrade, but they are still too expensive for my needs ($750 for 256 GB). (I had thought that SSD drives would drop to the $200 range this year.) Should I consider doing a complete wipe and reinstall of my MBP? In the old days of Win98 that significantly boosted performance in the short term. I don't know if OS X would benefit similarly.
