Um, if Goodtimes went under, why are they still releasing DVDs?
Here's the one title, I'd love to see Universal put out as a CE...

:)
I'd also love to CEs of Casino, Dazed and Confused, The Frightners, Halloween II, and People Under The Stairs.

I would also love to see Phantasm II and Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead released on DVD in Theatrical Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 and in Dolby Digital Surround 5.1 and with enough Special Features to keep you busy with your DVD Player (and Computer) for days...

Man, there are some excellent suggestions here! I'd like to add my support for:
  • Duel
  • The Incredible Shrinking Man
  • Scarface, the Shame of a Nation - One of the few classic gangster films not controlled by Warners. Show them the way, Universal!
  • All the James Stewart/Anthony Mann movies (including Thunder Bay, if that's a Universal title)
  • Shenandoah - James Stewart and George Kennedy? Come on, Universal!
  • Halloween II (and III, if they own it)
  • And especially Phantasm II and III!

I can't believe I forgot about Phantasm 2 and 3! Add them and Serpent and the Rainbow to my original list!

Count me in for SE's of They Live and Prince Of Darkness. John Carpenter is one of the most influential modern horror director (please note that I did say MODERN) and his commitment to DVD has not gone unnoticed. Nearly all his DVD's have great commentaries and extras, and these two films would certainly round out the already numerous amount of Carpenter SE's. I would pay anything for SE's of these films, so I hope you are listening Universal.
Wes Craven has also put plenty of effort into the DVD releases of his titles, and I am sure he would do so to The People Under The Stairs. This is undoubtedly one of his best, and my personal favorite of his films, and a commentary would be splendid. This film is much different than traditional Craven fare, and it would be great to hear his input on the whole experience.
If MGM of all companies can produce quality DVD's of Phantasm 1 & 4, surely you could do the same for Phantasm II & III. Seeing how committed Don Coscarelli is to his Phantasm films, I am sure you would have no trouble in convincing him to contribute to the production of these lost gems.
Halloween II & III have been rumored by many form goers of getting SE treatment in the future from you guys, but nowhere have I read of any of this, so I am going to agree with the other posters that these two films both need Special Edition treatment as well. This are two major 80's horror films, and over the years have attained large cult followings, and if you can make an SE of The Thing sell to consumers, I am sure you would have no trouble in doing the same with these films. While he didn't direct, I am willing to be JC would contribute a large amount to supplements for these releases as well.
The Frightners, The Funhouse and Duel are also in need of SE makeovers and I would gladly pay for these releases as well.
Universal, you have a gold mine on your hands with all these horror films, hopefully you will appease the fans and produce quality releases of these films! If you can release and SE for 1941, anythings possible! :D

I second 'DUEL', 'THEY LIVE' and 'PRINCE OF DARKNESS'. I also would buy remastered reissues of 'SCARFACE' and '1941'. But personally I'd love to have Special Collectors Editions of Steven Soderbergh's 'KING OF THE HILL', Paul Newmans 'GLASS MENAGERIE' and Walter Hill's 'STREETS OF FIRE'! That would be great!

I'd loved to see Universal do special editions for all of those films, but also I think its time for them to release a Dune special edition. I'd love to see a longer cut in widescreen, and without all the stock and repeated footage.

The obvious title Universal needs to redo as a true special edition is Jaws. What they released last year was a truncated disgrace. This film deserves a two disc set with the complete documentary and the original sound mix as an option.

Heh...there are plenty of films less well off than the treatment Jaws received. Let's have Universal focus on the stuff they haven't released before we go asking for rereleases! :)

Doesn't Universal own distribution rights to all the pre-1949 Paramount talkies? That's a helleva lot of great films that never even saw a laserdisc release. Have ANY of them been released on DVD?
I had a friend who worked briefly for Seagrams at the time of the Vivendi sale, and he was under the impression that their intention was to eventually deliver all this software over the Web, but my response to that was, "Isn't that kind of a long way off?"
When is your average Joe going to have the kind of bandwidth that can compete with DVD resolution? I ain't no spring chicken!

First off, let me second the motion for special editions of Richard Linklater's DAZED AND CONFUSED and Steven Soderbergh's KING OF THE HILL and THE UNDERNEATH. Soderburgh's reputation is at an all time high, and Linklater's WAKING LIFE has been the talk of festivals around, indicating that it's time to revisit these seminal early works. Likewise for the horror and sci-fi titles already mentioned; the bare-bones Image editions were fine at the dawn of DVD when we just needed product, but are obsolete in the light of what the medium offers now.
In addition to those, these deserve spanking new releases:
MONTY PYTHON'S MEANING OF LIFE (with incidental music restored to "Our Feature Presentation" cards, both theatrical trailers, maybe new Terry Jones commentary?)
FLASH GORDON (with commentary by director Mike Hodges, surviving memebers of Queen, Sam Jones, Ornella Muti)
MATINEE (with Joe Dante commentary, complete version of MANT as featured on laserdisc)
AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON (include additional TV footage on separate supplement)
HEARTBEEPS (reportedly, Allan Arkush had a new cut prepared to cash in on MAN IN THE MOON; while the theatrical run was slow, it's certainly done enough on home video to reignite interest in Andy Kaufman)
And just for the record, is Universal no longer licensing titles to Anchor Bay? Previously announced titles like THE JOKERS have disappeared from their release list, and there hasn't been a new collaboration in some time. Please say it's still on; I'm crossing my fingers for a release of Peter Watkins' PRIVILEGE.

Of course I'd love to see Halloweens II & III get SE treatment, and the Carpenter movies, we're all forgetting one major series which has been dangling right in front of us this whole time:
Back to the Future.
BTTF was supposed to be one of Universal's first 10 Amblim releases. Years have gone by, and there's still no sign of these DVDs. Of course I understand Universal is trying to get these discs perfect, I'd like to see them try a little harder.

Yes indeed, Back to the Future. I have Jaws in a very nice format, looking all spiffy for DVD. And although they are not special editions, it is still possible to get The Frighteners and Dune and Matinee on DVD. Yes, I could even go to the store and buy a big special edition of 1941. Yet I can not buy Back to the Future (or any of its sequels) on DVD or VHS. Although I am a diehard fan of this series, and am interested in seeing every little bit of information you can squeeze on to these discs, I am also impatiently waiting their arrival at all. Universal, please stop screwing around with the Meet Joe Black Ultimate Edition and deliver the Back to the Future Trilogy before it does become 2015 and ALL the jokes in the series are dated.

One title I forgot that Universal controls is Airwolf. R2 already has a disc with a few episodes, with a second one on the way. Universal, please don't let R1 languish! Give us season boxes!

I want Dune (extended cut), Dazed & Confused in a Mallrats sized SE.
I also want a SE of te Frighteners, I really liked this movie and I've actually almost bought the current disc at least 3 times, but I put it back because I'm pretty sure that we will see a SE. But when we do get that SE, onething that I won't do is sit through a 4 hr documentary, that is extremely excessive and I wouldn't mind at all if it was cut to a semi-normal length.

I have always wanted a Special Edition of The Frighteners This has been one of my favorite horror/thriller/comedy type movies. And Peter Jackson is such a great director. And who can forget that great performance from Jeffrey Combs? Come on Universal re-release this great flick!
