It's just two weeks till the Universal Monsters double features are released.... does anyone out there have advance copies? I'm curious how the transfers look, how the audio sounds, etc. ----specifically, are they on par with the previous Monsters discs (not counting the BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN letdown)? I'm practically drooling with anticipation over these.... so any tidbits of info would be greatly appreciated!

Man, I can't wait to get my hands on these. But I know I'm gonna wait until they're made available cheaper as a box set.

Anybody else notice a problem with Son of Frankenstein and Frankenstein meets The Wolf Man ??? The cover art and DVD art are out of chronological order. Any "homemade" covers available ?

I was set to pick up a couple of these at Best Buy until I saw the price: $29.99 for most, $27.99 for the rest. Ouch! I had them double check the price and they told me it was correct. I don't recall it saying Criterion on the packaging which is the only way I'd consider paying that much for a single disc, no matter how many movies they cram on it.

$28 for two movies isn't bad! That's $14 a movie. I wonder if they would sell better as individual movie titles.

Online Retailers are selling the dvds at 25-30% off that quoted price.

It's bad when that is the MSRP. I've never seen a DVD sell at the MSRP before. I'm going to check around, but BB is definitely out for these titles.

I purchased mine online for just over $20. I'd name the store but don't want to sound like an advertisement. I admit $29.99 is steep for MSRP but with all of our online resources who pays full retail anymore anyway ?

These discs are stupidly expensive here in Canada.
I saw them ON SALE for $37.99, which is more than $10 more than the original special edition releases sold for.
I was under the impression that Universal was releasing them as double features since...
    1) they were not going to go to the expense of creating more supplemental material like they did for the first series, and...
    2) frankly, these sequels are only really worth it as a 2 for the price of 1 deal. Most of these are a pale, pale shadow of the films that preceded them, notable mostly for their nostalgia and camp value.
These were a no brainer for me at ~$25. At $38, one must be much, much more selective.

I think Universal has a bit of a missed opportunity here. I think they would sell a HELL of a lot more of these if the retail price was $25 (the same goes for the first batch of monster movies).

Jason, I agree. That's why I only have Dracula so far, and it was a gift.

I broke down and purchased the Son of Frankenstein/Ghost of Frankenstein disc at Best Buy. I've yet to watch GoF, but SoF looked pretty darn good. I'm planning on picking up Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman/House of Frankenstein and Son of Dracula/Dracula's Daughter, but not at BB! Now if they'd just release the other Invisible Man titles, House of Dracula, The Raven and The Black Cat, I'd be a happy camper!
