FYI... UK version is also missing Carla Laemmle intro from Dracula.

I thought it was missing Lupita's intro from the Spanish version?

No, that's still an option on the UK release.

So the UK edition is missing a commentary from Dracula and Carla Laemmle intro.
Are these the only things missing ??

Probably not, but what is missing isn't worth the difference in pricing to me.

Didn't Carl Laemmle only introduce Frankenstein?

    I believe so.
I just want to know all that is missing from the UK before I decide which version to buy.

The intro to Frankenstein is on the UK disc. It's part of the movie, not like the spanish Dracula which is a newly made intro.

I always though it was the guy who played Van Helsing, not Carl Laemmle. Are we talking about the same thing?

This is what's on the UK disc:

It's definitely not Carl Jr. He was only 23 years of age when Frankenstein came out. Also, I always thought it was Edward Van Sloan.

Okay, just checked and AFI has Van Sloan listed as the Prologue announcer. Van Sloan played Van Helsing in Dracula and Doctor Waldman in Frankenstein.

Yeah that's him in that clip. I can never remember his name. He played Van Helsing and variations of Van Helsing in all those movies.

So is there something else that should be on the disc?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that a similar aside/soliloquy was planned (but never filmed) for Dracula, again I think with Van Sloan, but was supposed to come at the end of the film.

Edward Von Sloan introduced "Frankenstein" and played Doctor Waldman in the film. He was Van Helsing in "Dracula" and did film an epilogue. The epilogue was part of the official release version in 1931. It was edited out of a re-release. The epilogue is mostly lost or damaged, but a clip of it appears on the "Road to Dracula" documentary included in the set.

Thanks Eric. I'll have to check out that documentary.
How did your screening go last weekend?

It was fantastic. I posted about it on the other Universal Monsters thread...the images were almost like sterling silver. Everyone really got into the films, and they played so well outdoors on the big screen. Lots of people attended...all around great evening!

Just found this old 2008 HTF thread
    http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/267810/exciting-discovery-of-dracula-film-element
where a rumor that the epilogue had been discovered was discussed, and then apparently dispelled. I guess the fragment on the documentary is all that remains?

So this means the UK Dracula disc isn't missing an introduction then right?

I think the original question was about an introduction by Carla Laemmle. I know she is involved in several of the other extras on the set, so maybe she filmed something special for Dracula, that wasn't included.
Either that, or they are referring to her 'small' part in the opening carriage scene
Since I have the UK version, there is no additional 'intro' to the classic film (the Spanish version does have an intro by Lupita Tovar)

Yes it is. I refer to an intro from Carla Laemmle which was on the Dracula dvd. Its not on the UK blu-ray.

I no longer have the original Dracula DVD, so I don't remember if she did an introduction. I also don't have the US version of this set.
I do know Carla Laemmle (now aged 102) is a major part of the Road To Dracula extra that was included on prior releases, and is on the UK set. She does do an 'introduction' to the film at the start of that extra.
