Hi all!

Looking at potentially trying to find a replacement for our Tosh TW65G80. I'd definitely like to concentrate on HDTV RPTV sets of similar size (btw, what's the difference between "HD ready" and "HD compatible"? :) ). I've done a lot of searches, and most sets seem to have comparable features (Tosh, Mits, Sony, RCA etc etc) - is/are there a/any brand/brands and or model/models that are generally favored over others?

Thank you so much in advance!

Greetings

Depends on who you ask ...

Mits/ Tosh/ Hit/ Sony ... all are popular and perform well when calibrated.

RCA's normally look nice with calibration, but their reliability track record is sometimes questionable. (Annecdotal)

HD ready and HD compatible are both the same types of sets.

Ditto for HD monitors ...

They all lack HD tuners.

That's kind of what I was afraid of :)

I was eyeballing the RCA HD65W20, which has a built-in ATSC HiDef & DirectTV decoder. The question is, like you say, how RCA stands up in the competition as far as reliability goes. The Tosh we have now is really a great set.

Let me ask this instead - are there any brands I should definitely stay away from?

Thanks!
