I totally agree with James; however, most people automatically dismiss bookshelf speakers right off the bat because they believe they can't compete with floorstanding speakers. Sometimes because they've been steared that way by many people or they've just never experienced a well designed, high quality bookshelf. They don't bother listening to them because they've been told that floorstanders will be better, so why bother, right? WRONG! ;)

"Personal preference reigns. It's been stated over and over: "Let your ears (and/or budget) be the judge, only you can decide what sounds good to you".

couldn't agree more with JamesCB on that one. My personal opinion is if you can audition some bookshelves and towers that you are interested in side by side, you will notice that the towers are fuller sounding. anyways go get some new speakers and enjoy!!!!

This is actually what I originally planned. An all tower solution, while nice, is not practical, in my opinion, owing to space considerations. Moreover, my admittedly limited experience with multi-channel audio has shown that while timbre matching is important, the surrounds rarely receive as much info as the front L/C/R channels, unlike the 5-channel stereo option in my current (outgoing) Denon receiver (which I've tried, but don't like. I prefer Pro Logic, if anything, though I really prefer my music unprocessed).

OTOH, Dolby Digital through an optical connection using floorstanders sounds better than dts through a coaxial connection using bookshelves.

Just kidding. Don't even want to go there.:) :D :) :D :)

paul, based on the info in your thread, HERE, i wouldn't get towers unless it's for cosmetic/utilitarian reasons, or if you plan to NOT use your sub in certain instances

That's just too funny man. I believe he could require a small nuclear power plant to run the amps such a setup likely requires (that is if a warp engine is unavailable).

For just a split second I could actually start to feel my blood pressure start to rise until my BS meter kicked in and then I read the rest of the post....
