Some stuff that hasn't been mentioned yet...
Freaked
Justice League of America tv movie/pilot (although not generally liked, it's only available as a bootleg at cons...that's gotta be worth something)
Child's Play, and all of it's sequels
Groundhog Day
The Toxic Avenger
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie

Pedantic maybe but The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has (a) never been a film and (b) was a success from day one...
I guess it does get cult status but I think that's more due to it's age. In its day I believe it was a lot bigger, hence the reason to make the TV Series.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the 3 most famous and inarguably BEST cult films EVER made:
Vanishing Point
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry
Easy Rider
There are more but these 3 are my favorite's and are most certainly "Cult Classics"

There is a movie called, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy based on the book
No there's not. There is, however, a TV series that aired some years ago on BBC. But I am virtually 100% positive that there is no separate theatrical film of HHGTTG.
As for cult films...For the love of pete people...
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!

There is no Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie.
It has been something on the horizon for a great many years and supposedly they are just about to get down to it but I believe the original studio (Disney?) was going to do such a hatchet job that Adams bought the rights back at considerable expense.
(Have a check on IMDB). There is a TV series which I guess someone may have reedited into one movie but that's it. We're going off-topic here so I will let it lie now.

Well, I was going to do 100 but I couldn't stop, so I went all the way up to 200. I purposely didn't include anything already mentioned (I hope, correct me if I missed something). I had The Mack on the list, but since Reginald just added that, I replaced it with The Candy Tangerine Man.
Since "cult movies" isn't really a genre, it's open to wildly different interpretations, and each list is going to be idiosyncratic. I doubt we'll ever come to a consensus on a top 100, but what the hell, here's 200 more nominees:

Glad to see a mention of Barbarella. I love that movie. And Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. What about Buffy, the Vampire Slayer? Not sure if that's cult or not.

I don't see why not. I'm not sure I've actually ever seen the movie, but the cult status of the TV show insures that people will be going back to the original movie for years to come.
