I know it's not in English, but I'd say Dragon Ash's Buzz Songs was innovative along with Beck's Odelay in Hip Hop/Rock fusion

I'm too lazy to come up with a list of 10 albums, but my favorite album of the 1990's is "The Fugees - The Score".

311 - Transistor Music, Grassroots, and the blue album were all great, but I believe that this was them at the top of their games. This album could put anyone to sleep, but in a good way. Every song is so soothing to the ears and "Use of Time" has got to be one of the best songs I've ever heard
Aagh! I saw this while reading through the thread and had to comment. Transistor is by far their worst album. When I get in the mood for some 311, I don't want to go to sleep! I want some funky grooves with a dash of heavy crunch.. the whole album basically bubble-gums their sound and lends itself to the NSync/Britney Spears crowd. Terrible, terrible release. If you want to hear them at their peak, take Grassroots or even their more popular self-titled album. Transistor, I suppose, is something that would put me to sleep if I could get over the fact that it's by 311.

Holy Crap!!is this hard to do. Very difficult to make a top 10 list with so many great bands and music, but heres my attempt:
10. Led Zeppelin:"BBC Sessions" - A final look at a great band and a much better live album than the shitty Song Remains The Same Soundtrack (those performances were never really effective, the band was hamming it up for the cameras)
9. Deconstruction:Self Titled - Janes Addictions Dave Navarro and Eric Avery.Fantastic guitar playing, great music, great album - much more imaginative than Ritual DeLo Habitual.
8. Alice In Chains:"Jar Of Flies" - My personal fav from them. A lovely record.
7. Fugazi:"In on the Killer Taker,End Hits" (Tie)- I couldnt choose.Fugazi is freaking great. A band with integrity. I hope theyre around for another 100 years.
6. Smashing Pumpkins:"Siamese Dream" - We all seem to agree on this one.
5. Tool:"Aenima" - Tool rules. Period.
4. Megadeth:"Rust in Peace" - Ok, at the time, Megadeth blew Metallica AWAY. This album is tremendous. It amazes me that Mustaine was able to think this stuff up and play it while high on heroine, crack or whatever, the guy is a guitar god.A must for any guitar player to learn.Great, intelligent, progessive metal - too bad after this they went down the toilet. If you can get the import with Go To Hell and Breakpoint on it-makes a even more impressive album, 2 awesome songs!
3. Sepultura:"Arise" - I just love this album to death. This is what a great metal band should sound like. Perfection!
2. Death:"Sybolic" - It was hard to choose between this one and their previous,Individual Thought Patterns.Chuck Schuldiner belongs up there with some of the greatest guitarists in history -I lOVE LOVE LOVE this band. LIke Megadeths RIP, but taken a bit further. Intelligent progressive songs. Trying to learn these songs has given me nightmares. This bands music means SO much to me.
1. The Flaming Lips:"Clouds Taste Metallic" - Actually Hit To Death In The Future Head and Transmitions From The Satellite Heart belong here too.But since I had to pick one... I have NEVER heard a band that made songs that are so infectious to sing along to. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!! This band has changed the way I look at music. Avoid Soft Bulletin like the plague, but it doesnt get any better than their older stuff. They make the world a better place.
A few honorable mentions:
Against All Authority: Destroy What Destroys you (The greatest ska album youll ever hear)
Janes Addiction:Ritual DeLo Habitual
Nirvana:Nevermind
Hum:Youd Prefer A Astronaut (I made fun of my brother for buying this album, and they really grew on me. Get Electra2000 if u can)
Stone Temple Pilots:Purple
Vision Of Disorder:Imprint (Ive listened to this a million times)
Tool:Undertow (Tool rules)
Rage Against The Machine:SelfTitled
Pennywise:All of them (Just pick one, theyre all great)
Metallica:Garage Inc (For the older material on disc 2)
Quicksand:Slip, Manic Compression

I won't do my top 10, but I want to mention some albums that I don't think have been mentioned enough yet:
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
I first got onto this album after hearing its songs in movies like Pi and Snatch. I'm am eagerly waiting for Massive Attack next album to come out in a couple of weeks.
Soundgarden - Superunkown
This album was the whole reason I bought a CD player.
Outkast - Aquemini
Alright, I'm going to have to vent for a second. NOBODY else has mentioned this album! I got hooked onto Outkast after I heard their Stankonia album. I purchased Aquemini and then proceeded to listen it in my car for 1.5 hours a day for 5 weeks straight- I'm not joking. Its so good I have a hard time calling it hip-hop because of the negative conotation to the term "rap music." Anyone who cannot stand hip-hop has to give this album at least a listen

Have to admit I'm shocked at all of the "mainstream" music populating everyone's lists!

Thanks for the great suggestions guys! I just began listening to full albums instead just single songs and it is so much more satisfying. Songs you weren't so fond of suddenly get a new meaning and great songs become even better. It's just like watching a Pan'n Scan movie in full glory OAR for the first time. :)

Unless I missed it, I'm surprised no one mentioned My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Jon Z; I love that you've got the Lips in the #1 spot - great choice. The Lips could probably fill out my all time top 10. (a little disappointed and perplexed in regard to the Soft Bulliten remark, but anyone who lists a Flaming Lips album as a #1 is alright by me)
