Female director Mimi Leder (Deep Impact, The Peacemaker) will direct a film based on Michael Connelly's novel "Void Moon" about a female cat burglar forced to come out of retirement. The film is set to star Academy Award nominee Diane Lane (Unfaithful, The Perfect Storm) as Cassie Black and Academy Award winner Al Pacino as Jack March (The Recruit, Insomnia).

    Synopsis:

Cassie Black (Academy Award nominee DIANE LANE) has never looked back. She walked away from her life as a criminal after one disastrous night that left the man closest to her dead and her life in a wreck. Now she's thriving at a job selling Porsches to Hollywood hotshots. Through everything — even her darkest moments — she has been able to keep going by holding on to one perfect thing, her greatest secret, dearer to her than life itself.

When that secret is threatened, Cassie tosses her new life away like a bad hand of cards and goes back in a sprint to her old line of work. Her trade was robbing casino gamblers, and she was the very best. Now it's the only way she can make enough money fast enough to maybe make everything alright. Quickly she lines up a mark, a man who has been winning steadily for a week at high-stakes baccarat. The job goes smoothly until she opens his briefcase... And discovers a world of trouble she never dreamed of. Her superstitious friend who lined up the job says it's the bad-luck 'void moon' having its malignant way. Cassie knows it's worse. She's crossed paths again with her life's nemesis, the man who destroyed everything six years before. He's Jack Karch (Academy Award winner AL PACINO), a private investigator by day who does bloody work for casino owners by night. Walking back into his sights is the worst thing that's ever happened to Cassie and a game of cat and mouse ensues leading to an unforgettable confrontation. Getting out alive will take all of Cassie's skill and luck and faith in that one good thing...

Based on the acclaimed bestselling novel "Void Moon" which is available now as a paperback.

    What do you guys think?

Sounds like typical Hollywood formula rehash.

    Sorry.

I thought it sounded cool. The two actors DIANE LANE and AL PACINO are great. AL's especially cool when playing a "nast piece of work" and the book was really good I thought.

Martin, all a movie needs is Diane and you're there. [IMG]

It sounds like it's been done in one way or another a hundred times before. Even for Hollywood it sounds unoriginal. Of course, it may still be entertaining, but there's no way I'd see it in a theater.

I really like Michael Connelly's books but this one was terrible. The "secret" is so lame, so predictable, that I literally knew it within the first 10 pages of the book. God, it was awful. I was really stunned at how bad it was because he usually writes some great stuff.

Shitty book=shitty movie, IMO, unless they substantially change it, which is doesn't sound like they're going to do.
