Don't forget Caddyshack 2. On second thought, do forget it. It has the distinction of being the olny movie I ever walked out of.

Patrick,

So the theatrical version definitely looks better than the extended cut?

I still need to pick this disc up one day.

Here's a few comparisons...

Extended:

Theatrical:

Notice how Jake's sunglasses are a little more visible. Also, more fine detail in the dirt and walls.

Extended:

Theatrical:

The theatrical version loses the edge enhancement and isn't as grainy (probably an artifact of edge enhancement).

However, even the 25th Anniversary DVD's extended edition is improved from the old DVD:

1998 DVD extended edition:

2005 DVD extended edition:

The macroblocking isn't as bad on the new DVD. The '98 DVD crammed the entire film into 4.8 GB! The new DVD uses roughly 6 GB.

All versions still have that mushy DNR look to me. Less EE and compression is good though. But there's no real reason to go back to watching the theatrical version. Less music, no killer 5.1 track.

Hi.

I've read everything you guys wrote on this topic, as well as texts at thedigitalbits, dvdcompare and amazon.
But I still don't know which edition to buy.
So I came here to ask for your help... please.

I know WHAT I WANT and WHAT I DON'T WANT. But I'm afraid that all of my wishes can not be fulfilled in the same time. So maybe you could advise me about buying the edition which will be the closest to my wishes. :) (complicated guy this Filip, don't you think so?)

I WANT:
1. theatrical version
2. extended version
3. all the extra footage/documentaries/interviews I can get
4. music at the correct pitch
5. original stereo

I DON'T WANT:
1. sequal which in fact does not exist anyway :D
2. two-sided discs

I DON'T CARE MUCH:
1. if I have surround sound or not
2. if picture quality is slightly more or slightly less sharpen, contrasted, etc.
3. about price

So... we have many different releases (R1 & R2):

http://www.amazon.com/Blues-Brothers...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Blues-Bro...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blues-Brothe...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blues-Brothe...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blues-Brothe...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Blues-B...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blues-Brothe...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

...and probably a few more.

PLEASE HELP, THANK YOU! :)

The Extended Cut has some added sound effects in certain places (machine gun fire, etc.). The theatrical cut features the original, unaltered soundtrack, thank goodness.

C'mon guys... this is such a popular film, so I don't believe no-one here can't help me a little bit more.
I'll try with more simple questions.

This is R1 2005 edition, which contains everything I want, except for the fact that all this huge amount of features is putted on 1 two-sided disc.

Maybe it's stupid prejudice, but I really don't want that kind of disc.

Now, can anyone tell me, please - is this the SAME edition, but with PAL speedup AND WITH 2 NORMAL DISCS, insted of two-sided one?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blues-Brothe...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd
(It says "2 discs", but very often technical info on Amazon sites is NOT correct, so now I can't be 100% sure.)

If someone owns R2 - is PAL speedup noticeable during those legendary songs?

If I buy 25th Anniversary Edition (no matter which region), I won't get what is called THE BEST OF THE BLUES BROTHERS documentary from 1993, right?

Thanx.
