Yet, they did "There's My Bush".
That's My Bush! didn't really have a political bent. But, the subject of the show was decided by who won the election. It's well known that if Gore had've won, the show would have been about Gore.

Am I missing something here? What was so blatantly political about this episode? What was the "message" and how did the show "tell us what to think"?

Not this episode, but the show in general.

There are other things besides politics that put my interest in "The Simpsons" at an all-time low. They used to make fun of everything (Mayor Quimby is a Democrat, for God's sake!). I'm wondering if they should do episodes that don't feature the Simpsons at all but allow other characters to get genuine laughs. They've created so many characters that if they took this change in direction, they could outrun "Wonderful World of Disney."
